Summer vacation always brings special emotions to children. In theory, it's a time for children to rejuvenate their souls. Many children get to travel with their families, go on picnics, have real-life experiences, and participate in life skills, art, or sports classes.
For urban children who lack resources, they can be sent back to the countryside to be closer to nature, or they can choose their own ways to have fun by participating in forums, clubs, visiting libraries, or attending local summer activities...
But a very different reality has emerged in recent summers: many children have had their summer holidays "stolen" by their own parents.
In recent days, even though summer hasn't officially arrived, the demand for summer tutoring classes has already been overwhelming. Many parents have to rely on personal connections to secure places for their children in crowded tutoring sessions with supposedly reputable teachers.
The education sector differs from others in that it has a summer break aimed at rejuvenating students' physical and mental well-being. However, the term "summer break" seems to be becoming an increasing luxury for many students. After a strenuous school year, many face an unwelcome summer break, anticipating that they will still have to carry their books to extra classes every day.
The pressure to achieve high grades is burning away the legitimate rights of these children.
Despite media outcry and recommendations from education experts, some parents claimed they would "change history," but history repeated itself. This is because the desires of a few parents could not overcome the reality that if they did not send their children to school, they would be left behind on the "train to academic achievement."
In addition, for some students, attending summer school is also because adults want to send their children to extra classes so that teachers can supervise them instead of them.
There used to be a sad story that almost every summer, children would bring home a letter of recommendation from their school's youth organization so that the local youth organization could arrange summer activities in their residential area. But in reality, very few children participated because they had to attend extra classes and for many other reasons; the confirmation of their participation in summer activities was basically just a formality.
When students attend school, they are under the school's supervision. During the summer break, the school will coordinate with families and local authorities to jointly manage them. This responsibility cannot be avoided. Local youth organizations must pay even more attention to this, employing appropriate methods, especially now that the youth organizations at the commune level have become much stronger after the implementation of the two-tiered local government model.
Therefore, this summer, let your children have a proper vacation.
