The annual winter-spring rice crop is considered a "sure bet," providing the main source of income for farmers. Proactive measures to prevent and combat drought and salinity intrusion.

The winter-spring rice crop is the most important production season of the year, usually yielding high productivity and quality. Facing the risk of drought and saltwater intrusion during the 2025-2026 dry season, the provincial agricultural sector is proactively implementing various solutions and guiding farmers to care for rice according to proper technical procedures to minimize risks and ensure safe production. Currently, the 2025-2026 winter-spring rice crop is entering a crucial stage. The agricultural sector advises farmers to closely monitor their fields, proactively control pests and diseases, and manage irrigation water effectively.

In Tieu Can commune, farmer Thach Ren (Cau Tre hamlet) has proactively planted and cared for rice according to the guidance of the agricultural sector, hoping for a high-yield harvest. Besides farming, Mr. Ren is also tasked with managing and operating the concrete canal pumping station in the fields. He regularly monitors salinity levels to proactively manage water supply, ensuring a sufficient water source for farmers in the area.

According to Mr. Duong Van Tuan (a farmer from Cau Tre hamlet), thanks to participating in the cooperative model linked to the concrete irrigation canal system, farmers can proactively manage irrigation water, reduce production costs, and increase productivity and economic efficiency compared to traditional farming methods. Mr. Tuan added: This year's winter-spring rice crop saw farmers planting simultaneously and following proper technical procedures, resulting in good rice growth and development. With 1 hectare of rice under cultivation, his family has high expectations for a high yield.

According to Mr. Trinh Truong Giang, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Tieu Can Commune: For the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring rice crop, the commune has arranged a planting schedule divided into two phases. Phase 1: from November 14th to December 16th, 2025. Phase 2: from December 20th, 2025 to January 10th, 2026. To date, farmers have completed planting on 2,650 hectares. The main varieties used include Dai Thom 8, OM 5451, OM 4900, and OM 18; supplementary varieties include RVT, ST24, and ST25. The Economic Department of the commune advises farmers to adhere to the planting schedule, plant simultaneously and concentratedly in each field, prioritize the use of certified rice varieties, and apply row planting and sparse planting with a seed rate of no more than 120 kg/ha. Balanced fertilization and regular field monitoring are necessary to promptly detect and control pests and diseases such as rice blast (leaf blast, neck blast), brown planthopper, bacterial diseases, and rodents, in order to ensure high yields and efficiency in the winter-spring rice crop.

Provide active care

According to the plan, the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring rice crop in the entire province will cover approximately 106,000 hectares, aiming for a yield of about 710,900 tons. The planting schedule is arranged into four phases, from October 20, 2025 to January 31, 2026, to suit the weather and hydrological conditions of each region. The recommended rice varieties are high-quality varieties with wide adaptability and easy marketability, such as: OM5451, OM4900, OM6976, Dai Thom 8, ST25, OM18, OM6162, OC10, Nang Keo, Nang Quoc; along with some supplementary varieties such as OM380, OM34, OM429, OM2517, OM9577, OM9517, OM9955, RVT, ST20, ST24, ST5…

To ensure a successful winter-spring rice crop, the agricultural sector is focusing on promoting training, transferring advanced techniques, and replicating advanced farming models such as "3 reductions, 3 increases," "1 must, 6 reductions," using pesticides according to the "4 correct principles," applying balanced and rational fertilizers, and increasing mechanization to reduce production costs, improve productivity, and enhance economic efficiency.

Ms. Thach Thi Sang (residing in Hoa Lac A hamlet, Song Loc commune) said: This year, her family planted 1 hectare of the Super Buffalo rice variety for the Winter-Spring rice crop. The rice is now over a month old and is growing and developing well. According to Ms. Sang, the annual Winter-Spring rice crop usually yields high productivity, averaging 6-7 tons/ha;
The relatively stable price of rice has resulted in fairly high profits, allowing families to produce with peace of mind.

In Cho hamlet, Binh Phu commune, farmer Dang Van Son said: The yield of the winter-spring rice crop is usually very high; however, due to some areas of elevated fields, the rice does not develop uniformly. Therefore, Mr. Son proactively replants rice seedlings, carefully cares for the plants, and closely monitors their growth to help them develop well, flower simultaneously, thereby increasing yield and economic efficiency.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Le Van Dung: To minimize risks from adverse weather, pests, and saltwater intrusion, the agricultural sector recommends that localities plant rice according to the seasonal schedule, simultaneously across all fields; and at the same time, encourage farmers to care for rice according to the correct technical procedures. Focus on effectively implementing measures to avoid pests, using certified rice varieties, strengthening pest and disease forecasting, improving the irrigation system in the fields, and proactively implementing solutions to cope with saltwater intrusion. In addition, the agricultural sector continues to coordinate with relevant units to support brand building, granting planting area codes, connecting businesses for consumption, thereby increasing the value of rice grains, contributing to ensuring a comprehensive success of the Winter-Spring rice crop and completing the 2026 crop production plan.
