Vietnam U.17's strategy
As part of the preparations for the 2025 AFC U-17 Championship finals, the Vietnam U-17 team will reconvene on February 22nd at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
Because many players from the Vietnam U.17 team are currently competing in the 2024-2025 National U.19 Championship in Ba Ria Vung Tau, the team can only gather about one-third of its players in the initial training camp. The full squad will be available after the National U.19 Championship concludes on February 28th.
The Vietnam U.17 team will reconvene on February 22nd.
Regarding the coaching staff, Coach Cristiano Roland continues to be entrusted by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) with the task of leading the Vietnam U.17 team to participate in the 2025 U.17 Asian Championship. The Brazilian strategist led the Vietnam U.17 team through the qualifying round of the 2025 U.17 Asian Championship with 3 unbeaten matches, including a 0-0 draw against Kyrgyzstan U.17, a 2-0 win against Myanmar U.17, and a 1-1 draw against Yemen U.17, thus finishing second in Group I.
Previously, during the preparation phase for the 2025 U.17 Asian Championship qualifiers, Coach Roland and his players made a strong impression by defeating U.17 Uzbekistan (3-0) and U.17 Japan (1-0) to finish as runners-up in the Peace Cup international friendly tournament held in China.
Alongside coach Roland in the coaching staff are assistant coach Fernando Atz Gabriel (Portugal), along with Vietnamese assistant coaches including: Nguyen Dai Dong ( Hanoi FC), Hoang Tuan Anh (PVF), Nguyen Ngoc Duy (PVF), goalkeeping coach Tran Van Dien (PVF) and Brazilian fitness expert Brandi Regato Neto Jose (VFF).

Furthermore, in order to improve the quality of the Vietnam U.17 coaching staff before facing greater challenges at the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship, with the support and recommendation of the Japan Football Association, the VFF decided to appoint Mr. Yutaka Ikeuchi as a technical supervisory advisor, working alongside Coach Roland and his colleagues.
Vietnam U.17 will play a friendly match against Oman U.17.
According to the plan, after a training camp at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the Vietnam U.17 team will travel to Oman for a training camp from March 23rd to 29th. There, the team will have two "test matches" against the host team, Oman U.17, before moving to Saudi Arabia to participate in the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship finals.
According to a FIFA decision, from 2025 onwards, the U.17 World Cup finals will be held annually instead of every two years, and the number of participating teams will increase from 24 to 48, with Asia being awarded 8 slots.
This means that the 8 teams that reach the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFC U-17 Championship will qualify for the U-17 World Cup.
Vietnam U.17's schedule at the Asian U.17 Championship
At the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals, Vietnam U17 is in a group with defending champions Japan U17, Australia U17, and UAE U17. Despite being in a difficult group, coach Roland remains confident in Vietnam U17's ability to compete.
The 49-year-old coach said that the challenge for the Vietnam U.17 team is immense, but with thorough preparation and determination, the whole team is striving to advance beyond the group stage, progress further in the tournament, and qualify for the 2025 U.17 World Cup.
