(CLO) The Art Council of the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival believes that young authors and directors should immerse themselves more in reality and truly integrate into the contemporary flow to find creative material for themselves.
On the evening of November 15th, the closing ceremony of the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival took place at the Can Tho City Cultural Center.
This year's festival, held from October 25th to November 15th, featured the participation of 29 public and private art troupes, competing with 33 plays and involving over 1,000 artists, actors, and musicians.

In his concluding remarks, playwright Nguyen Sy Chuc, Chairman of the Art Council, highly appreciated the richness and diversity of styles in the works participating in the festival. Many plays were of high artistic quality, with clear and profound themes and ideas, showcasing the unique and distinctive beauty of Cai Luong opera.
In the creative team, alongside established names, many young authors have emerged, demonstrating their abilities through scriptwriting or adapting cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) with techniques bearing a strong personal creative imprint. Young directors have also proven their talent, taking on the responsibility of leading creative teams.
With the actors at its core, the most evident motivations are their love for the profession and their burning desire to showcase their talent. The festival is not only a grand celebration for those working in the field but also a place to accumulate and pass on the most creative skills of Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera).
In particular, the continuity between generations is a prominent highlight of the Festival, as many People's Artists and Meritorious Artists have become role models, instilling confidence in young artists entering the competition.

However, some authors still use techniques inappropriately, failing to refine the lyrics, thus failing to inspire the audience and making it difficult for actors to perform. Some plays still sound "overdone" in their problem-solving and dramatic conflicts; they fail to create compelling character portrayals, leaving the story bland and monotonous…
Speaking on behalf of the Arts Council, Mr. Nguyen Sy Chuc suggested that young authors and directors should immerse themselves more in reality and truly integrate into contemporary trends to find creative material for themselves.
Furthermore, the increase in the number of entries and participating troupes at the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival is a positive sign. However, alongside troupes that have invested seriously in their works, there are still some that have not invested adequately. Some troupes even choose to remake award-winning scripts from decades ago; or some troupes focus only on roles that could win medals without paying attention to the artistic elements of the performance.
At the end of the Festival, the Organizing Committee awarded 4 Gold Medals to the plays: “Xuan Huong Nu Si” (Hanoi Cai Luong Theatre); “Nguoi Con Cua Rung Tram” ( Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe); “San Ho Do” (Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre), “Chat Ngoc Cam Thi Giang” (Tay Do Theatre - Can Tho) along with 8 Silver Medals to other plays.
