Lingard is once again in the spotlight of the European transfer market. |
After becoming a free agent, Lingard attracted interest from three La Liga clubs: Celta Vigo, Sevilla, and Real Oviedo. According to sources from El Pais , these three teams officially contacted Lingard's representatives and received the player's approval.
Lingard himself was eager to experience La Liga for the first time in his career. Approaching his 30s, Lingard understood that opportunities to play at the highest level were dwindling. Therefore, he decided to leave Korean football with the ambition of returning to a top European league at the end of his career.
Lingard's decision to move to South Korea to play for FC Seoul last season came as a big surprise to fans worldwide. In the K League, the former Manchester United star played a total of 67 matches and scored 19 goals, partly demonstrating his efforts to reinvent himself in a completely different football environment.
Lingard earned only around £17,500 per week while playing for FC Seoul, significantly less than the £180,000 per week he previously earned at Nottingham Forest.
