Recognizing sustainable poverty reduction as a crucial task contributing to socio-economic development, Can Dang commune consistently focuses on increasing people's income, improving their living standards, reducing the poverty rate, and preventing re-poverty. The commune actively promotes widespread dissemination of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on poverty reduction to raise awareness, gradually eliminate the mentality of dependence and reliance, and foster the people's will to overcome poverty.

Mr. Huynh Ngoc Nhinh, Deputy Head of Can Thanh Hamlet, is a Party member with a strong will to overcome difficulties and rise above adversity. His family was classified as near-poor, struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to his hard work, Mr. Nhinh and his wife now have a solid house and aim to escape near-poverty by 2025. Besides his work in the hamlet, he also helps his wife with a small business at home. His daughter also has a stable job at a garment factory in Binh Hoa Industrial Park. “As a Party member, I have to set an example. Besides fulfilling my assigned duties well, my wife and I do many jobs to make a living. Thanks to the local government providing capital support for raising cattle and selling groceries, my family's life is gradually stabilizing,” Mr. Nhinh shared.
Ms. Duong Nguyen Chan Phuong, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Can Dang Commune, stated that vocational training and job creation are prioritized by the commune, implemented through diverse, effective, and practical methods. The commune focuses on promoting vocational training linked to agricultural production and traditional crafts. Many poor, newly-escaped-from-poverty, and near-poor households have received livelihood support, job creation, and increased income, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people. Along with providing preferential loans, various sectors, organizations, and local authorities have intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to apply scientific and technical advancements in livestock farming, crop cultivation, and economic activities, helping them to sustainably escape poverty and gradually improve their quality of life. Mr. Cu Minh Tuan Kiet, Secretary of the Can Thoi Hamlet Party Branch, said: “Every year, the hamlet coordinates with relevant departments and organizations in the commune to conduct surveys and reviews of poor and near-poor households in the area. This includes analyzing the causes of the difficult circumstances of these groups to develop practical, appropriate, and effective support solutions and policies. As a result, the poverty rate in the hamlet has decreased sustainably, and there are virtually no cases of re-poverty or near-poverty. To date, the entire hamlet only has 11 poor households and 18 near-poor households.”
Helping poor and near-poor households have sturdy roofs and stable housing is one of the key and ongoing tasks of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Dang commune. In 2025, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and its member organizations actively mobilized resources to build 66 new houses and repair 6 solidarity houses, with a budget of over 4.1 billion VND, helping poor and near-poor households stabilize their housing.
With the support of the commune in building a new solidarity house with an area of 32m² , costing a total of 60 million VND, funded by the An Giang Lottery Company Limited, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong and her husband, residing in Vinh Hoa A hamlet, were overjoyed. Along with the family's main income from her husband's work as a construction laborer, Ms. Phuong also takes advantage of her free time to sew mosquito nets for hire, earning a stable income of 3-4 million VND per month. “This is a suitable job for many women in rural areas, allowing them to both care for their families and increase their economic income. With the commune's support in building a sturdy house, my husband and I can work with peace of mind to raise our children and ensure they receive a proper education, and strive to overcome poverty,” Ms. Phuong shared. To date, the poverty rate in the entire commune has decreased to 1.57%, with 93 households; the near-poverty rate has decreased to 2%, with 119 households.
According to Ms. Duong Nguyen Chan Phuong, in the coming time, the commune will continue to effectively implement sustainable poverty reduction solutions using a multi-dimensional approach, minimizing the rate of re-poverty. At the same time, it will maintain and expand effective sustainable poverty alleviation models; pay attention to vocational training, job creation, the transfer of science and technology into production, and livelihood support. The commune will strengthen guidance, support, and assistance for the poor, near-poor, and those with difficult circumstances to access and effectively utilize preferential loan capital, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people and promoting local socio-economic development.
