MU are preparing for the possibility of parting ways with Fernandes. |
According to the Daily Mail , Manchester United are closely monitoring Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as a potential reinforcement for their midfield.
Gibbs-White's contract includes a £60 million release clause. However, the issue isn't just the transfer fee. Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to break the new wage structure established by the club's management. Recent signings like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko all earn around £150,000 per week. If Gibbs-White arrives at Old Trafford, he will likely have to adhere to that structure as well.
In this context, Bruno Fernandes' future has become unpredictable. Having joined Manchester United in 2020, the Portuguese midfielder has consistently been a key player and maintained stable form for many seasons. But at 31, rumors have begun circulating that he might seek a new challenge, including interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
This season, Fernandes' performance hasn't been outstanding. He needs four more goals to reach 10, his lowest tally since the 2021/22 season.
In contrast, Gibbs-White is maintaining impressive form. In the 2024/25 season, he scored 7 goals and provided 8 assists, helping Nottingham Forest qualify for the Europa League. This season, the English midfielder has continued his excellent form with 6 goals in the Premier League and has also made his mark in European competition.
Alongside plans to revamp their midfield, MU also wants to reduce its wage bill. Casemiro will leave the team at the end of the season. The club hopes Barcelona will sign Marcus Rashford permanently after his loan spell. Jadon Sancho is also likely to leave when his contract expires, while Harry Maguire may have to accept a pay cut if he wants to stay.
Clearly, if Gibbs-White arrives, it would not only be a professional signing, but also a step in MU's financial restructuring strategy.
