Chinese football clubs want to recruit Ding Bei because he is 'good, effective, and...cheap'.

Recently, Chinese media have been continuously debating the possibility of their clubs recruiting Vietnamese football star Nguyen Dinh Bac.

This information emerged around the beginning of February, after several news sites such as 163 and Sina reported that Guangxi Hengchen, a club recently promoted to the Chinese First Division (China League 1), was interested in buying Ding Bei.

Information from Chinese media even claimed that Guangxi Hengchen inquired about buying Dingbei for 300,000 euros, or more than 9 billion Vietnamese dong.

These rumors sparked a fierce debate, drawing public opinion from Thailand, Indonesia, and other countries. Many Thai newspapers even advised Dinh Bac to join China, as it remains a high-quality football environment.

But on the other hand, many Vietnamese fans believe that Guangxi Hengchen is not of sufficient stature to recruit the gem of Vietnamese football.

Information about Guangxi Hengchen's interest in buying Dingbei has so far remained only rumors circulating on Chinese news websites and social media.

But recently, Chinese media have mentioned the possibility of recruiting Ding Bei in a different vein of information - that is, increasing the foreign player quota for teams in the China Super League (the highest division of Chinese football).

According to Sports Sina, Chinese football is at a disadvantage because the quota for foreign players per club is only 5. This is quite low compared to other major football nations in Asia.

Chinese media believe it's time to increase the number of foreign player slots, or at least add more slots for players from the same continent.

The Sports Sina article cites Dingbei as a prime example, believing that if the China Super League changes its rules, top Chinese teams will have more opportunities to recruit star players from neighboring countries.

Recently, journalist Lao Qiu further supported this view, stating: "For example, striker Nguyen Dinh Bac, who won the top scorer title at the U23 Asian Championship, is talented, effective, and inexpensive. Changing the rules will give us more opportunities to recruit players like him. Let's stop being closed off and open the doors to the world ."

The assessment of journalist Lao Qiu, as well as other Chinese news outlets, is not unreasonable. The only thing that makes Vietnamese fans feel uneasy is the Chinese media's claim that Dinh Bac is... cheap.

This information may come from Transfermarkt valuing Ding Bei at 300,000 euros. This is truly a paltry sum for the famously wealthy tycoons of China.

However, Transfermarkt's valuations are only relative and often inaccurate for young players who haven't had many opportunities to play at the continental level, like Dinh Bac.
