Jellyfish lantern
Originating from handmade craft enthusiasts, jellyfish-shaped lanterns quickly became a "hot trend" during the Mid-Autumn Festival thanks to their whimsical appearance and affordable price.
Do Ngoc Huynh Nhu (25 years old), residing on Bau Cat Street, Bay Hien Ward (formerly Ward 12, Tan Binh District), Ho Chi Minh City, quickly caught on to the trend and started a business selling these lanterns.

"To complete a velvet wire Mid-Autumn Festival lantern requires at least 5 steps, taking about 20 to 30 minutes if you're experienced. Initially, I found it difficult, but after the first few finished products, it only takes about 15 minutes to make a complete lantern," Nhu shared.

According to Huynh Nhu, the price of jellyfish lanterns ranges from 30,000 to 50,000 VND per piece, depending on the type. Additionally, Nhu mentioned that people can buy velour wire and make their own lanterns, adding to the meaningfulness of the occasion.
Bui Trach Nhan, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, was extremely delighted when he first learned about this type of lantern. "Jellyfish lanterns are very unique, and I can even buy velour wire to make them at home. I made a pink lantern for my younger sister to play with during the Mid-Autumn Festival; the wire only cost about 15,000 dong," Nhan said.
Join the patriotic trend with lanterns featuring the red flag and yellow star.
Besides jellyfish-shaped lanterns, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival also saw a surge in lantern designs commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd. Lanterns featuring the red flag with a yellow star were also a popular choice among young people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (42 years old), who works at a lantern shop on Luong Nhu Hoc Street, Cho Lon Ward (formerly Ward 11, District 5), Ho Chi Minh City, said that this year the theme of "patriotism" is attracting a lot of attention, so lanterns with the red flag and yellow star are prioritized for sale, from paper lanterns to those covered with colored cellophane.

"These lanterns range from 40,000 to 50,000 VND each, while paper lanterns are cheaper, around 30,000 VND each," Ms. Hue said.

Nguyen Quoc Huy, a student at the International University of Ho Chi Minh City, said: “Looking at these lanterns, both traditional and beautiful, I find them truly special. This year is also a year of many important national events, so seeing them on the streets makes my heart flutter. After the solemn parade of the soldiers, seeing the bright red lanterns makes me feel even more proud and warm.”
Labubu and BabyThree lanterns are still trending.
Having become popular in 2024, the Labubu and Babythree lantern designs show no signs of losing popularity in 2025, remaining a favorite among young people. A stroll along Luong Nhu Hoc lantern street reveals that these types of lanterns make up a significant portion of the market. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, despite being an older design, these lanterns are still quite popular among young people due to their compact size and cuteness.

This year, mini lanterns are trending, and Labubu attached to a bamboo basket makes me even more delighted,” Thao shared.

Rabbit-shaped lanterns are also widely sold by vendors.
