Newly established through the merger of three communes: Hoang Lien, Muong Hoa, and Ta Van (formerly part of Sa Pa town), this area encompasses the stunning Muong Hoa valley and many famous community-based tourism villages. The terraced rice fields in Ta Van have been recognized as a National Scenic Landscape and Monument, becoming a source of pride for the local people. Despite being located more than 10 km from the center of Sa Pa National Tourist Area, the terraced rice fields in Ta Van still captivate tourists with their golden, sprawling beauty. Amidst the shimmering terraced rice fields, villages appear close together, creating a peaceful and vibrant picture. Visitors come here not only to take photos but also to breathe in the scent of ripening rice. Amidst the vast golden landscape, community tourism destinations appear serene, with smoke from cooking fires drifting across the sky, creating an unforgettable sense of peace.
At this time of year, on the terraced rice fields, the golden hues of ripening rice intertwine with the deep brown of the soil, creating a captivating and colorful landscape. A check-in point.
The rest stops and small tea stalls amidst the terraced rice fields offer visitors a unique experience. Visitors to Ta Van can also experience beeswax painting and brocade embroidery right at community tourism sites. During the recent September 2nd holiday, the commune welcomed 19,205 visitors, generating over 107 billion VND in revenue from tourism and services. The allure of the terraced rice fields, sometimes lush green stretching across the mountainous region, sometimes golden yellow during the harvest season, has made Ta Van a destination not only domestically but also internationally.
On July 15, 2025, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) included Ta Van village (Ta Van commune, Lao Cai province) in its list of six of Asia's most beautiful "villages in the clouds," alongside famous destinations in China, Bhutan, the Philippines, and India. The Ta Van terraced rice fields, covering over 700 hectares, have been nationally recognized and are one of the most ideal trekking routes in Vietnam. Beyond its spectacular natural landscape, Ta Van impresses with its sustainable tourism model, featuring over 60 homestays built in harmony with the environment, preserving the pristine charm of the village.
