Manager Amorim will be without eight players as Manchester United host Wolves at Old Trafford. |
According to The Manchester Evening News , Manchester United are facing a major squad crisis with as many as eight key players absent across all three lines. The list of unavailable players is causing a real headache for the MU coaching staff.
Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, and Bruno Fernandes are all injured, while Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui are on duty at the African Cup of Nations. Notably, the situation is further complicated by the uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Mason Mount and Lisandro Martinez.
Given this situation, manager Amorim was forced to rotate his squad and adjust his tactics. Switching to a 4-2-3-1 formation in the win against Newcastle was seen as a temporary solution. It's possible he will continue to use this formation to reinforce the defense against a Wolves side that plays a frustrating counter-attacking style.
MU are currently in sixth place with 29 points, just three points behind fourth. Against a Wolves side languishing at the bottom of the table and suffering a long losing streak, a victory is essential if the "Red Devils" don't want to fall behind in the race for the Top 4. However, with a severely depleted squad, this is clearly not an easy task for Amorim and his players.
