RT reported on October 5 that Hamas denied information that it was ready to immediately disarm following President Trump's ceasefire proposal.

Earlier in the day, several media outlets cited anonymous sources as saying that Hamas had agreed to hand over its weapons stockpile to an agency under international supervision and had informed the United States of the decision.

However, Hamas denied the "fabricated claims", insisting that its stance was only communicated through official channels.

"This information (Hamas is ready to disarm immediately) is baseless and aimed at distorting views and causing public confusion," Hamas said.

On October 3, Hamas partially agreed to Mr. Trump's peace plan for Gaza, expressing a willingness to return living Israeli hostages and the bodies of the deceased, as well as transfer the management of Gaza to "an independent Palestinian group."

Although the group did not mention disarmament, a senior Hamas official, Mousa Abu Marzook, elaborated on the matter to Al Jazeera shortly afterwards, saying that Hamas would only "hand over weapons to the future Palestinian state, and whoever governs Gaza will have weapons in their hands."

Hamas seized around 250 people hostage in a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed at least 1,200 people and sparked Israel's subsequent military campaign in Gaza. The group is believed to still be holding around 50 Israeli hostages, about half of whom are believed to be alive.
