The Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center is not only a channel for providing official information but also a core force in shaping public opinion, preventing fake news, and exposing subversive plots by hostile forces. With well-structured strategies, the application of modern technology, and a team of journalists with strong political convictions, the Center is making a significant contribution to maintaining political stability and socio-economic development in the province, and helping to firmly protect the ideological foundation of the Party.
The ideological struggle is becoming increasingly complex. According to official figures, an average of over 100,000 pieces of fake news and harmful information are disseminated daily on social media platforms. Much of this content distorts the truth, misrepresents the Party's policies and guidelines, and causes public confusion. In particular, reactionary elements often exploit "sensitive" issues such as land policies, freedom of speech, and human rights to incite opposition and sabotage.
Quang Ninh, strategically located as the gateway to the Northeast region, has always been a target for hostile forces to spread misinformation and sow discord within the national unity. In recent years, on average, the province's authorities have detected, combated, and handled over 50 cases annually related to fake news and malicious information on the internet, many of which distorted information about personnel management, investment policies, and sustainable tourism development. For example, when the province implemented a plan to close open-pit coal mines to protect the environment, some individuals spread false information claiming "the province is abandoning its economic strengths" and "tens of thousands of workers will lose their jobs." The Provincial Media Center quickly intervened, publishing a series of articles refuting these claims and providing clear data on the province's economic transformation plan, emphasizing the retraining and career chuyển đổi for coal industry workers. Highly critical articles with specific data have contributed to quelling misinformation and helping the public understand the province's sound policies.
Beyond simply refuting misinformation, the Center plays a key role in guiding public opinion and handling media crises. In late 2024, when Reuters published an article implying that UNESCO might investigate and potentially revoke Ha Long Bay's World Heritage status, the Center collaborated with relevant authorities to refute the false information. Dozens of mainstream news articles affirmed the province's efforts to preserve the heritage, citing opinions from the Department of Cultural Heritage and UNESCO experts. Thanks to this timely intervention, the false information was pushed back, eliminating the potential for a media crisis regarding the World Natural Wonder of Ha Long Bay on the internet.
In addition, many sensitive issues, creating opportunities for hostile forces to distort and incite unrest, were promptly and objectively addressed by the Provincial Steering Committee 35 and provincial leaders. The Provincial Media Center provided information to the press and the public in a transparent manner, guided public opinion, and provided information to media outlets and the public.
Besides direct articles on combating corruption, the Center also implemented a series of communication campaigns and in-depth features with strong reach. Notable examples include: "Quang Ninh Takes Flight in the Era of National Advancement," and "Streamlining the Organizational Structure," implemented in early 2025 across all of the Center's platforms. These affirmed the province's remarkable development, its determination to enter a new era, and created a profound forum for citizens to understand the province's innovative policies. Alongside these were communication campaigns such as: "Making Yen Tu a World Heritage Site," "30 Years Since Ha Long Bay Was Recognized as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site," "Awakening the Tourism Potential of Bai Tu Long Bay," and "Developing Quang Ninh's Heritage Economy," which were meticulously directed in terms of content, prioritized in terms of resources, and spread with great pride in the homeland and country.
The Provincial Media Center also promotes the production of highly combative political and journalistic works. Notable examples include: the series "Strengthening Resistance Against Harmful and Toxic Information," which won the A Prize in the 2024 Provincial Political Commentary Competition on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation; and "Controlling the Power of Officials: Practical Experiences from Local Areas," which won the A Prize in the 2022 National Journalism Awards, along with numerous other journalism awards such as the "Golden Hammer and Sickle," "Dien Hong," and "Studying and Following the Thought, Morality, and Style of Ho Chi Minh," as well as national radio and television festivals.
Faced with increasing challenges, the Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center has identified its future strategy as continuing to enhance its proactive role in protecting the Party's ideological foundation. One of its key tasks is to strengthen cooperation with major domestic and international media outlets to disseminate official information, while also learning from international experience in handling fake news. The Center continues to invest in human resources, training a team of reporters who are not only professionally competent but also possess strong political convictions, ready to operate effectively in cyberspace.
