Accordingly, for the 2025 early rice crop, Luc Yen district will implement the project in 10 communes: Muong Lai (120ha), Vinh Lac (100ha), Lieu Do (100ha), Mai Son (100ha), Lam Thuong (200ha), Minh Xuan (100ha), Khanh Thien (100ha), Tan Linh (100ha), Yen Thang (50ha), and Minh Chuan (30ha). The area mainly focuses on rice paddies that are used for two rice crops per year, with additional winter vegetable crops planted in these areas, as these locations are favorable for irrigation, transportation, and the delivery of supplies and harvested products.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung, Deputy Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Luc Yen district, said: "To ensure the early ripening of the summer rice crop and to guarantee the timely planting of winter vegetables according to the seasonal schedule, the Department has directed communes to work with the people to take advantage of favorable weather to quickly harvest spring rice, corn, and peanuts on paddy fields, especially in areas encroaching on lakes, rivers, and streams. As soon as the rice reaches 80% ripeness, it should be harvested urgently according to the motto 'better to harvest while still green than to let it ripen too much in the field,' in order to avoid damage from early floods and to ensure the early summer rice crop production is on schedule. At the same time, people are also focusing on repairing and dredging canals; prioritizing water supply to fields producing the early summer crop to ensure timely land preparation and planting within the prescribed timeframe, to be completed in June."
In addition to accelerating the spring rice harvest, the district has also directed people to proactively sow rice seedlings from June 1st to June 15th to ensure timely transplanting in mid- and late June, with the main varieties being short-day rice varieties such as Thien Uu 8, HT1, Bac Thom, J02... along with applying tray seedling technology and sowing seedlings on hard, easily excavated soil for convenient transplanting.
Ms. Hoang Thi Mai, from Tong Pinh Cai village, Lam Thuong commune, shared: "My family has 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of paddy fields, and we cultivate two rice crops and winter vegetables annually. In 2025, to ensure smooth production according to the district's general planting schedule, I planted Nghi Huong 305 rice in the spring, which ripens about a week earlier than some other varieties. I have finished harvesting and am now preparing the land for the summer crop in late June. For the summer crop, I switched to planting HT1 rice to ensure early ripening, good pest and disease resistance, and high yields, maintaining stable rice production for my family's living expenses and livestock, while also freeing up land for winter crops. I sowed the seedlings in mid-June, and they will be ready for transplanting in just a few days.”
Besides early-season rice, main-season rice accounts for over 65% of the total rice cultivation area in the entire district. To ensure yield and production, people have prepared the necessary conditions and materials to sow seedlings in late June and early July using hybrid rice varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, Viet Lai 20, CP134, Thai Xuyen 111, and purebred rice varieties such as Thien Uu 8, Bac Thom No. 7 (resistant to bacterial blight), J02, VNR20, TBR225, Khang Dan 18, glutinous rice, etc.
At the same time, the District Department of Agriculture and Environment has also strengthened the deployment of staff to the grassroots level to coordinate with the authorities of communes and towns in directing production, guiding and disseminating techniques for sowing seedlings in trays and on hard ground, techniques for sowing and transplanting using the improved SRI method, and drought and flood prevention for crops; establishing inter-agency working groups to inspect the quality of seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural supplies, and promptly handling cases of violations in the business of substandard seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural supplies to ensure effective production for the people.
With the involvement of the entire political system in directing and promoting crop production activities to ensure adherence to the general seasonal schedule, the people have actively introduced mechanization into land preparation; applied scientific and technological advancements to production and intensive farming such as: using manure, microbial organic fertilizers, deep-placed compressed fertilizer pellets, applying lime to neutralize acidity and remove alum from the fields; and controlling pests and diseases with the right pesticides and dosages, so that the 2025 crop season will continue to be successful.
