What are the current salaries for teachers at all levels?

VTC NewsVTC News21/10/2024

According to the new salary scale applied from July 1st (after the increase in the base salary from 1.8 to 2.34 million VND/month), kindergarten teachers of grade III are currently the lowest-paid group, ranging from approximately 4.9 to 11.4 million VND per month, depending on the grade (excluding allowances and seniority).

Primary, secondary, and high school teachers of grade I receive the highest salaries. Those with a salary coefficient of 6.78 earn nearly 16 million VND per month (excluding allowances and seniority bonuses).

The current salaries for teachers at all levels are as follows:

The formula for calculating a teacher's general income is: Income = Base salary x Salary coefficient + Allowances + Seniority.

Depending on their position and workplace, teachers may receive one or more allowances: seniority allowance (5% after 5 years of service, with an additional 1% each year), professional incentive allowance (25-50%), position allowance, seniority allowance exceeding the standard rate, and special allowances for teachers who are artisans, teachers who teach people with disabilities, and teachers working in areas with particularly difficult conditions.

In the draft Law on Teachers, which will be presented and commented on at the upcoming National Assembly session, the Ministry of Education and Training proposes that teachers' salaries be ranked highest in the administrative and public service salary scale system. The Ministry also proposes raising teachers' starting salaries by one level.

Explaining this, a representative from the Ministry of Education and Training stated that, according to a survey, 61% of teachers who have left the profession recently are under 35 years old, and one of the reasons for this is low income, insufficient to cover living expenses. Meanwhile, young people have many other things to worry about, such as supporting themselves, raising children, and pursuing further education.

At the same time, the salaries of teachers with less than 5 years of experience are currently very low. That is why the Ministry of Education and Training proposes raising teachers' starting salaries by one level, in order to encourage young people to enter the teaching profession. This is also part of realizing the goal of having the highest teacher salaries in the salary scale.
