Counting on his fingers, worker Lo Van Hoan, his face tanned by the sun, broke into a bright smile and said: "Time flies so fast! It feels like just yesterday, but more than 15 years have passed since I officially received my employment decision from the Rubber Joint Stock Company. Those days were full of hardships and difficulties; there was a lot of pressure and obstacles from relatives, family, and neighbors, but for me, the day I received the official employment decision was very 'special.' I feel happy and proud, even though I know that the work ahead will be very hard!"
And then, Mr. Lo Van Hoan recounted his memories of the old days with the company. It was early 2011, after several short-term contracts, that Mr. Hoan was officially hired as a worker by the company. His job back then was to care for and protect the plantations and plant new trees in place of dead ones. Working on the hillsides wasn't difficult for the Thai ethnic people in Na Say 1 village, but planting and caring for rubber trees was completely new. For the people of Na Say, rubber trees were like a "stranger" from a very distant place. Because of this, many people in Na Say kept saying that rubber trees didn't yield latex, so planting them was a waste of effort; the company wouldn't stay with its workers for long… Even Mr. Hoan, after receiving his employment decision and returning home, people in the village were still whispering, "He'll quit soon enough"; "It's all for nothing!…"

Despite the whispers and unfounded advice, Hoan woke up early every day to go to the plantation, fulfilling all the tasks assigned by the team leader according to his responsibilities and duties. After finishing his own work, Hoan would roll up his sleeves to help the other workers in the team. Day after day, Hoan became proficient in the work of a plantation worker, tapping rubber; he diligently learned and worked diligently on every task assigned to him. However, each evening, returning home, he was burdened with worry because his temporary house was cramped, and as his children grew older, the house seemed even smaller.
Understanding the circumstances and aspirations of Mr. Hoan's family, in 2022, when the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group implemented a policy to support disadvantaged workers in building houses, the staff and workers of the Cao-Tuan Giao Plantation, Dien Bien Rubber Joint Stock Company, unanimously nominated Mr. Hoan for the Group's support. With a grant of 60 million VND from the Group and the additional support of dozens of fellow workers, Mr. Hoan was able to build a spacious and comfortable new house in 2022.
"Having stable housing and a sturdy roof over our heads means we no longer have to worry about the wind during thunderstorms, so everyone in the family is happy and healthy. For me personally, since the house was finished, it feels like a heavy burden has been lifted, and I feel even more at ease working and contributing to the company," Mr. Lo Van Hoan happily added.
Along with Mr. Hoan from the Na Say rubber plantation team, Mr. Lo Van Muoi also recently received financial support from the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group and Dien Bien Rubber Joint Stock Company to build a house under the "Shelter of Love - Shelter for Workers" program implemented by the Group. And the new house is considered a "special gift" for Mr. Muoi.
Mr. Lo Van Muoi recounted that he was overjoyed when he received the news that he would receive 50 million VND in support to build a new house. He couldn't sleep that whole night, constantly thinking about the years he had worked and been connected with his fellow workers, the company, and the love and camaraderie they had shown him. He understood that the affection the workers and the company had for him was truly precious; it was the workers who helped him when he first started, guiding him through tasks like tapping rubber, building perimeter roads, and constructing shelters for the rubber pipes… When he was tired or sick, they helped with work in the plantation and with family matters. And then, he was also the one prioritized by his colleagues to receive support for building a new, spacious house so that his wife and young child wouldn't have to worry about a leaky roof like before. Mr. Muoi said emotionally, "For me, a roof is not just for protection from the sun and rain, but also a source of motivation to overcome life's difficulties!…"

Expressing his joy at witnessing the happiness reflected in the faces and eyes of workers like Lo Van Hoan and Lo Van Muoi, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cam, General Director of Dien Bien Rubber Joint Stock Company, said that the company's leadership is also relieved that each year more workers receive support to build new houses. In the past five years, thanks to support from the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group, Dien Bien Rubber Joint Stock Company has supported 31 worker families in building new houses, with a total support budget of 1.35 billion VND.
In addition to funding from the Group, Dien Bien Rubber Joint Stock Company also proactively provides additional support and assigns workers to take turns assisting families in building new homes in the spirit of "unity and sharing," so that each completed home becomes another story of compassion and sharing among poor workers in the highlands and border regions.
