Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly actively working to persuade his compatriot Bryan Mbeumo to join Old Trafford, amid a heated race for the striker's signature with Tottenham Hotspur. Mbeumo has become the focus of attention after a breakout season at Brentford, where he scored 20 Premier League goals and was named the Hornets' Player of the Year. This impressive form has put him on the radar of top English clubs.
Currently, Manchester United are leading the race to sign Mbeumo. However, the move of former Brentford manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham has made the prospect of joining North London more appealing to the player. Despite this, sources suggest Mbeumo is still leaning towards Old Trafford, where the club is looking to significantly overhaul its squad with the arrival of new signing Matheus Cunha.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Onana is actively using his close ties with the Cameroon national team to persuade Mbeumo to choose Man Utd over Tottenham. Mbeumo has earned 22 caps for the national team since making his debut in 2022, while Onana is a key player with 48 appearances.
Manchester United's initial £60 million bid for Mbeumo was rejected by Brentford. Meanwhile, Tottenham have offered a higher price of £70 million, hoping to reunite the player with manager Frank. Mbeumo's contract expires next season, although there is an option to extend it until 2027. This could prompt Brentford to sell their valuable asset, as his value is currently at its peak.
Breaking the silence amidst speculation, Mbeumo chose to focus on his time at Brentford under Thomas Frank, rather than directly addressing his future. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Frank has done so much for me. He really believed in me from the start. I think he's developed the team very well, and he's also developed me as a person and as a player. So I can only wish him all the best, and I'm sure he'll do well."
He also had nothing but praise for Frank: "He knows everything; he's really smart and knows what he wants to bring to the team, and he always makes it clear how he wants the players to play. He's been fantastic with Brentford."
When asked about the increasing transfer rumors, Mbeumo admitted: "I think this is a bit new to me. I think that's probably life as a footballer and you have to accept that."
