The Lençóis Maranhenses desert (Brazil) impresses with its vast stretches of white sand dunes interspersed with thousands of lakes formed after the rains. This contrasting phenomenon between aridity and life became the inspiration for designer Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông's "Desert of a Thousand Lakes" collection.

Ngo Manh Dong told Tuoi Tre Online that he was fascinated by the image of flowers thriving in harsh environments.
These include lotus flowers, camellias, gardenias, desert lilies, and even the sunset reflecting on the water's surface, all symbolizing vitality and resilience, which he expresses through the language of fashion .
"To thrive in a harsh environment is a testament to resilience. Just like ourselves, in any circumstance, we must overcome difficulties to blossom and flourish," designer Ngo Manh Dong Dong conveyed the message of his collection.
The Desert of a Thousand Lakes collection not only explores visual beauty but also reflects perspectives on life, nature, and humanity.
According to him, nature teaches people the lesson of not giving up and not backing down in the face of any difficulties.
This collection continues to showcase the strengths of handcrafted embellishment and surface treatment that are the hallmarks of Ngo Manh Dong Dong.

These designs draw inspiration from images of sand dunes, lakes, and flowers blooming in the desert.
Most of the designs are processed using pleating techniques to create new surfaces that mimic cacti, sand dunes, or the movement of wind in the desert.
Notably, one material in the collection, imported from France, is Moiré Jacquard Satin. The fabric's surface features a striped wood grain pattern, creating a rippling effect like layers of white sand moving in the wind.
Or the shimmering surface of water under the sunlight is shown through millions of tubular beads arranged in a straight line, creating a glint when light shines on them. This is Ngo Manh Dong Dong's signature technique.
In terms of color palette, he chose colors found in the natural landscape of the Lençóis Maranhenses desert, such as the yellow of the desert marigold, the mint green of the lake, the turquoise blue of the turquoise, or the black hues of tree shadows under the harsh sunlight.
Besides lotus flowers, camellias, and gardenias, Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông also incorporates images of crows, eagles, and falcons flying over the desert sky, which serve as endless sources of inspiration.

Images of crows, eagles, falcons, etc., were incorporated into the design.
The dress took four months to embellish by hand.
Among his favorite designs, Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông mentioned a black dress adorned with orchids, the lower part of which was embellished with tubular beads for 120 consecutive days.
Another design that caught attention was a white desert orchid dress with a flowing structure, overlaid with pleated fabric and adorned with thousands of crystals.
The yellow dress, inspired by the Desert Marigold flower, is also one of the most elaborate designs in the collection. Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông shared that the dress is made from over 9,500 handcrafted flower chains. Each chain consists of 24 beads combined with small flowers arranged densely interspersed with each other.

The design impresses with its couture embellishment techniques.
In addition, there were silver fringed dresses, mermaid-style gowns embellished with millions of beads, and designs resembling a "flower carpet" made of multicolored crystals. Despite the many elaborate details, the designs still maintained the wearer's sensuality.
The Thousand Lakes Desert also marks a new turning point for Ngô Mạnh Đông Đông as he aims for an image of a fashion house that approaches international standards in both technical skill and creative thinking.
He is pursuing the creation of couture-inspired collections with elaborate, creative craftsmanship, yet still practical for modern life. His goal is to gradually bring Vietnamese fashion to the international market.
