Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently joined Joe Rogan's podcast and shared his views on a range of topics, including content censorship, the Trump administration, and Apple.

Referring to Apple, the Facebook CEO argued that Apple "hasn't really invented anything great in a long time" and is only living off past successes. "Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, and now, 20 years later, they're still relying on it."

The story begins with Rogan's personal issues with Apple. He said he switched from Apple to Android partly because he disliked the feeling of being tied to a single company.

He also disagreed with Apple's App Store policy. "The way they run the App Store, charging 30% of everyone's money. It's crazy that they can do that."

“I have a few thoughts on this,” Zuckerberg chimed in. While acknowledging that the iPhone “is clearly one of the most important inventions of all time,” he argued that Apple ’s rules felt “arbitrary.”

According to Meta's CEO, Apple doesn't allow anyone to create something that can connect to the iPhone as their own product, such as AirPods. If Apple allowed others to use its protocol, there would likely be many competitors far better than AirPods.

The Verge notes that Meta has had long-standing problems with Apple, as well as the 30% App Store fee. The limitations of iOS make it harder for Meta to compete in terms of hardware and have also cost it billions of dollars in advertising revenue.

Zuckerberg said that if the iPhone manufacturer didn't apply random rules, Meta could double its profits based on its own calculations.

Apple is under pressure to open its products to the outside market. In the EU, the company has made several changes in accordance with new laws.

In the US, the company is also facing a lawsuit from the Department of Justice for alleged smartphone monopolistic practices. However, Apple seems intent on maintaining its closed ecosystem until forced to change.

Zuckerberg believes that Apple will ultimately suffer because of its own approach. He noted that the company hasn't launched many innovative products, while the tech industry is "super dynamic." "If you don't do well for about 10 years, eventually you'll be beaten."
