I lost 132 million VND from my account because I asked a friend to set up biometric authentication for me.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Thanks to a colleague who installed biometric authentication on his banking app, a man in Thanh Hoa had 132 million VND stolen from his account.

On November 9th, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police announced that the Criminal Investigation Department of Yen Dinh District Police had initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Do Cong Luong (born in 2006), residing in Yen Tam commune, Yen Dinh district, on charges of theft.

Previously, because he didn't know how to set up biometrics on the Sacombank Pay application, Mr. T.D.H. (born in 1973), residing in Yen Lac commune, Yen Dinh district, asked Do Cong Luong (a colleague at the same company) to install it for him.

However, since Mr. H.'s phone did not support biometric authentication, Luong downloaded the application to his own phone and logged into Mr. H.'s bank account to set it up.

After setting up his biometric account, Mr. H. tried to log into his bank account app on his phone but was unsuccessful and his account was locked.

On the morning of November 5th, Mr. H. came to the company and asked Luong to log him back in. After logging in, Luong asked for the OTP code from Mr. H.'s phone to check his account.

Seeing that Mr. H. had 240 million VND in his account, Luong became greedy and conceived the idea of ​​stealing the money. On November 5th and 6th, Luong transferred 132 million VND from Mr. H.'s Sacombank account to his own account.

As for Mr. H., because he couldn't log into his account, on the afternoon of November 6th, he went to the Sacombank branch in Yen Dinh to check and discovered that the aforementioned amount of money had been stolen.

On the evening of November 6th, Do Cong Luong surrendered to the police and confessed to his illegal actions.
