Messi threatens Ronaldo's record

Lionel Messi is closing in on Cristiano Ronaldo's all-time FIFA Club World Cup goalscoring record, as the race between the two world football legends continues to heat up.

Lionel Messi's brilliance was a key factor in Inter Miami's journey at the Club World Cup.

Ronaldo is currently leading the scoring list with 7 goals in the Club World Cup with Manchester United and Real Madrid. However, Messi is only one goal away from equaling CR7's record.

Messi took his tally at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ to six goals, with a stunning free-kick into the top corner in Inter Miami's 2-1 win over Porto.

Previously, he scored 5 goals in 5 appearances in this tournament when playing for Barcelona. With the latest goal, Messi equaled the record of 6 goals scored by two former Real Madrid stars, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Just one more goal and he will equal Ronaldo's record. If Leo scores two more goals, he will surpass CR7 to take the sole leading position.

Inter Miami will return to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup journey by hosting Brazil's Palmeiras on the morning of June 24 at Hard Rock Stadium. A win or even a draw against Palmeiras will guarantee Inter Miami a ticket to the round of 16.

Even if they lose, Inter Miami still have a chance to advance if Al Ahly fail to beat Porto in the other game and the home team maintains a better goal difference. In that case, they will become the first MLS team to advance to the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Messi scores a masterpiece at the FIFA Club World Cup. Early morning on June 20, Messi shined to help Inter Miami defeat Porto 2-1 at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
