Official Manchester United staff are not allowed to be given tickets to the Europa League final. |
According to UEFA, both Manchester United and Tottenham have been allocated approximately 15,000 tickets each for the Europa League final, which will take place at the San Mames stadium in Bilbao on May 22nd.
MU will hold a limited-ticket voting process for staff, while the majority will be invited to a live broadcast in Manchester, with the option to invite one additional person. Staff will receive two free drinks, while guests will have to pay for their own.
Manchester United's stance is to prioritize fans over staff. Demand for tickets is very high, and if a large percentage of tickets are allocated to staff, fans will undoubtedly be disappointed. The decision by the MU owner has caused outrage among some of the club's employees.
Meanwhile, Tottenham took a different approach. Each official staff member received a free match ticket. Around 700 tickets for the Europa League final are expected to be distributed to staff.
Currently, MU has around 900 staff members and 50,000 season ticket holders. An internal source at MU stated that "the top priority is maximizing the number of tickets available to fans." In previous Champions League final appearances, MU covered all airfare, accommodation, and meals for its staff.
Notably, PSG decided to cover the ticket and travel expenses for 600 staff members to attend the Champions League final against Inter Milan in Munich on June 1st, while the Serie A club also provided free tickets to its staff.
Before Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS group took over Manchester United 's sporting division, the club had around 1,140 employees. However, after two rounds of layoffs, approximately 450 people lost their jobs. Ratcliffe worked to cut costs in order to strengthen the squad. A series of other cost-saving measures were also implemented.
