McAtee has become a transfer target for Manchester United. |
According to The Telegraph , Manchester United are closely monitoring James McAtee's future. If Manchester City successfully sign Florian Wirtz to strengthen their midfield, McAtee is highly likely to leave Etihad. In that case, the Red Devils would have a great opportunity to sign the 22-year-old.
McAtee has impressed since returning to the Etihad last summer, after two seasons on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship. The midfielder has scored seven goals in 25 appearances across all competitions, including three goals in 13 Premier League games. However, with only one year remaining on his contract, McAtee wants to play more regularly next season.
McAtee has only started two games this season. Manager Pep Guardiola has praised McAtee on several occasions, but his playing time remains limited. McAtee hopes to benefit from De Bruyne's departure in the summer, but Man City are looking for an immediate replacement to refresh the squad.
Currently, Forest, Newcastle, and AC Milan are also closely monitoring McAtee's situation. Manchester United may have to act quickly, especially as manager Ruben Amorim needs to significantly overhaul the squad given that veteran midfielders Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are about to leave Old Trafford.
