Based on Article 1 of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army 1999, the definition of officers of the Vietnam People's Army is as follows: Officers of the Vietnam People's Army (officers) are cadres of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, operating in the military field, and are granted military ranks of lieutenant, captain, and general by the State.

What were the salaries of People's Army officers in 2023?
The salary scale for military officers by rank is implemented according to Section 1, Table 6 issued with Decree No. 204/2004/ND-CP. The current base salary is 1,490,000 VND/month (according to Decree No. 38/2019/ND-CP).
Recently, on November 11, 2022, the National Assembly passed a Resolution on the State Budget Estimate for 2023. Accordingly, from July 1, 2023, the basic salary for officials, civil servants, and public employees will be increased to VND 1,800,000 per month - equivalent to a 20.8% increase compared to the current basic salary.
Therefore, the salary scale for military officers will increase from July 1, 2023, compared to the previous regulations. The basic salary from July 1, 2023, will be 1,800,000 VND/month.
Therefore, the salary levels for military officers according to rank in 2023 will have two specific levels as follows:
