The US-China technology war is entering a new phase as US restrictions on AI chip exports inadvertently create a golden opportunity for Huawei to accelerate its dominance of the domestic market. After Washington banned the sale of high-end AI chips to China, NVIDIA almost completely lost market share in the advanced AI segment, forcing Chinese technology companies to seek domestic alternatives.
According to many forecasts, Huawei could capture up to 60% of the AI chip market in China by the end of 2026, becoming the biggest beneficiary of the US's tightening technology policies.
Huawei's growth is driven by the Ascend 950PR chip series, which boasts powerful AI performance, supports advanced technologies like DeepSeek V4, and features 128GB of domestically produced HBM memory.
Furthermore, Huawei plans to launch the Ascend 960 and Ascend 970 chip generations in 2027-2028 to expand its AI processing capabilities and compete directly with NVIDIA's platforms. Analysts believe that the fact that Chinese companies no longer have access to high-end AI GPUs from the US is accelerating the process of technological self-reliance faster than expected. According to forecasts from Morgan Stanley, the Chinese AI chip market could reach $67 billion by 2030, with up to 86% of the supply coming from domestic companies.
Despite continued US pressure through restrictions on lithography equipment from ASML, China is accelerating the development of its own AI ecosystem, with Huawei emerging as the new "power center" of Asia's AI chip industry.
