A warm home on New Year's Day

Everyone celebrates the New Year in very different ways. Some welcome the New Year in abundance and family reunions. Others enter the new year with renewed faith and hope after life's hardships.

For Ms. Do Thi Bich Phuong of D'ran commune, Lam Dong province, the beginning of 2026 holds special significance. It represents a journey from the depths of hardship to the complete joy of returning to a new home – a warm haven built with the kindness of the State, the armed forces, and the community.

Ms. Phuong is in a particularly difficult situation. Living alone and suffering from a serious illness, she frequently has to travel to Ho Chi Minh City for long-term treatment. However, a life-changing event occurred on November 20, 2025, when raging floods swept through the D'ran region. In a brief moment, her small house – her only possession, her shelter from the sun and rain – was completely destroyed by the floodwaters.

What lay before her then was not just a pile of ruins, but a feeling of utter emptiness and despair: homeless, unable to rebuild her own home, her health steadily declining, and her future bleak.

In the days following the flood, Mrs. Phuong lived in a heavy heart. Every time she recalled the moment her house was swept away, tears still fell from her eyes. It wasn't just the pain of material loss, but also the emotional shock. In those circumstances, the thing she dared not imagine most was one day being able to celebrate the New Year in a spacious, safe home.

However, what seemed like a distant dream became a reality on the afternoon of January 1, 2026. In the early days of the new year, the Lam Dong Provincial Police held a ceremony to hand over a house to the family of Ms. Do Thi Bich Phuong.

The house was built with a total cost of 250 million VND, of which the State contributed 200 million VND; officers and soldiers of the Traffic Police Department contributed 50 million VND, and also provided labor, arranged for machinery to level the ground, and transported soil to raise the foundation, making the house more stable against future flooding risks.

Holding the keys to her new house in her hands, Mrs. Phuong couldn't hide her emotions. The joy came unexpectedly, mixed with a lump in her throat and gratitude. For her, it wasn't just a house, but a rebirth of hope, proof that in times of hardship, the state and government are always there to help.

The new home has given her hope of continuing her treatment, living peacefully, and celebrating Tet in a warm, safe space – something she never dared to dream of just over a month ago.

Joy and hope shone on Mrs. Phuong's face.

"

I would like to express my gratitude to the authorities and the police force for helping my family overcome the consequences of the natural disaster and rebuild our new home so that I could celebrate the Lunar New Year to the fullest.

Ms. Do Thi Bich Phuong

Sharing the joy with Ms. Phuong on the day she received her new house, Colonel Dau Xuan Bao, Deputy Director of the Lam Dong Provincial Police, said: "The completion of the house before the New Year 2026 is not only a personal joy for Ms. Phuong but also a shared joy for the police force, who have unanimously and wholeheartedly joined hands to quickly help people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives."

Not only Mrs. Phuong, but also 27 other families who received assistance from the police force in building houses during the Quang Trung Campaign will celebrate the 2026 Lunar New Year in their new, more spacious, sturdy, and safer homes.

The Lam Dong Provincial Police handed over houses built during the Quang Trung Campaign to residents in Duc Trong commune, Lam Dong province.

That joy wasn't just for Mrs. Phuong alone. On the eve of the new year 2026, the atmosphere in D'ran commune felt warmer as four more households officially received new houses.

On the morning of December 31, 2025, four families had spacious and safe homes thanks to the repair and construction support from the 7th Military Region forces in coordination with Lam Dong province, implemented within the framework of the Quang Trung Campaign.

For them, the last day of 2025 not only marks the end of a challenging year, but also opens the door to a more fulfilling new year, where Tet (Lunar New Year) is no longer a worry about leaky roofs and crumbling walls, but a joy of reunion in a new home.

Construction of the remaining houses is being carried out urgently.

Settling down and celebrating Tet

From the story of Ms. Phuong and the households in D'ran, it is clear that Lam Dong province has shown great determination and effort in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, especially in implementing the Quang Trung Campaign.

In 2025 alone, the province experienced 21 natural disasters, causing serious damage to housing, with 39 houses collapsing, being swept away, or needing reconstruction, and 84 houses damaged and requiring repair. Faced with this challenge, the province launched two rapid and decisive campaigns, with the highest priority being to help people stabilize their lives as soon as possible.

Thanks to the determination and efforts of all levels, sectors, and local authorities, by December 31, 2025, all 84 houses requiring repair had been completed. All 41 houses needing reconstruction have been started, and 15 houses have been completed and handed over to residents before the start of the new year 2026.

Lam Dong province is determined to complete the construction of 41 new houses under the Quang Trung Campaign before January 15, 2026, so that people can celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 in new, sturdy, and warm homes.

Many houses built during the Quang Trung Campaign are nearing completion, ensuring residents can move into their new homes before the Lunar New Year.

Therefore, Ms. Do Thi Bich Phuong's joy at the beginning of the new year is not just a personal joy, but a microcosm of humanistic spirit and solidarity in overcoming natural disasters. In her radiant eyes on the day she received her new house, there was happiness, gratitude, and above all, the belief that, although life still holds many hardships, with the care of the Party, the State, and the community, the people will not be left behind. And that is the deepest meaning of the new spring arriving in Lam Dong province.
