Upgrading the runway at Quang Tri airport to accommodate large aircraft.

Today, April 15th, Acting Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, stated that the Provincial People's Committee is considering a proposal from Quang Tri Airport Company Limited regarding the upgrading of the runway structure at Quang Tri Airport.

According to Quang Tri Airport Company Limited, the Quang Tri Airport project is being implemented comprehensively to bring it into operation as soon as possible. Currently, the aircraft parking area is basically completed. The investor of the Quang Tri airport project expects to start construction of the ground area facilities in late April and early May 2025.

According to Quang Tri Airport Company Limited, the project documents approved for the investment phase before 2026 indicate that the runway and taxiway structure will only be suitable for accommodating Code C aircraft (small and medium-sized).

In anticipation of the runway upgrade and extension, the investor wants to adjust the runway design specifications from accommodating Code C aircraft to accommodating Code E aircraft (larger aircraft).

According to the leaders of Quang Tri Airport Company Limited, the upgrading of the runway structure at Quang Tri Airport aims to ensure the synchronized development of the aviation industrial zone in the province, with Quang Tri Airport as the core.

Reportedly, the Quang Tri Airport construction project officially commenced on July 6, 2024, in Gio Quang, Gio Hai, and Gio Mai communes (Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province).

Spanning over 265 hectares and with a total investment exceeding 5,800 billion VND, this project promises to bring significant economic benefits to the region.

Quang Tri Airport is currently designed to meet 4C standards and is a Level II military airport, capable of handling Code E aircraft and meeting the needs of serving 5 million passengers and 25,500 tons of cargo annually.
