Specifically, Decision No. 1485/QD-TTg amends Appendix I and Appendix II issued with Decision No. 648/QD-TTg dated June 7, 2023, of the Prime Minister approving the overall plan for the development of the national airport and airfield system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, as follows:
- Replace the scale and classification of Bien Hoa Airport in item 15, Part II, Appendix I (classified as 4C) with class 4E.
- Replace the scale and classification of Bien Hoa Airport in item 18, Part II, Appendix II (classified as 4C) with class 4E.
* Bien Hoa Military Airport was built in 1955 and is located in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province, approximately 30 km from Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
Bien Hoa Airport is strategically located with excellent visibility, at the northeastern gateway to Ho Chi Minh City. Its take-off and landing directions are nearly parallel and in the same direction as Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and the runways are not far apart, making it convenient for both airports to operate simultaneously. Bien Hoa Airport already has two runways, each 3.6 km long, along with taxiways, aircraft parking areas, warehouses, and an air traffic control tower system.
When Bien Hoa Airport is put into civilian operation, Dong Nai will be the first locality in the country to simultaneously possess two airports serving both civilian and commercial purposes: Long Thanh International Airport and Bien Hoa dual-use airport.
