Russian scientists have found a personalized cancer treatment strategy, with the goal of transforming malignant forms of cancer into a controllable chronic disease.

This is the result of cooperation between two units under the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPC RAS), including the St. Petersburg Research Center and the Institute of Immunology and Physiology of the Ural Branch in Yekaterinburg (IIP UB RAS), and will be announced at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) taking place from June 18-21.

According to the Roscongress Foundation, the personalized cancer treatment strategy is an advanced development in the field of oncology, developed by SPC RAS and IIP UB RAS under the leadership of academician Valery Aleksandrovich Chereshnev and senior researcher Sergei Borisovich Onikienko. The strategy will be presented within the framework of the SPIEF Innovation Space program.

The new cancer treatment method applies modern information technology combined with RNA sequencing techniques to build a unique “molecular portrait” of each patient's tumor.

The Roscongress Foundation statement said the focus of the strategy is on the analysis of interactions in oncology, specifically the interactions of protein networks that contribute to the survival of malignant cells.

The system will identify key proteins with the highest invasiveness - factors that play a decisive role in the risk of tumor proliferation and metastasis. This personalized approach allows the selection of drug combinations suitable for each patient, then directly tested on the patient's cancer cell samples based on immunohistochemistry.

This personalized medicine strategy has shown initial promising results in clinical trials for metastatic kidney cancer, small cell lung cancer, uterine sarcoma, and breast cancer.

Rossiya Segodnya International Media Group - the parent company of RIA Novosti - is the official media partner of SPIEF./.
