Thanks to growing safe vegetables, Ms. Ngo Thi Lien's family in Hoang Cuong commune earns over 100 million VND/year.
Joining the Hoang Cuong Safe Vegetable Cooperative, Ms. Lien's family has improved the land and switched to growing safe vegetables according to the cooperative's plan, from leafy vegetables such as mustard greens, water spinach, Malabar spinach, amaranth... to tubers and fruits such as beans, cucumbers, kohlrabi, tomatoes... The cooperative buys all the harvested products, so the family can confidently invest in intensive production and VietGAP standards. Since then, her family has had a stable source of income, escaping the poverty that had plagued them for many years.
Like Ms. Lien's family, Ms. Le Thi Hoa's family in Zone 1 also became well-off thanks to growing safe vegetables. Not only did she escape poverty, she and her husband also supported nearly a dozen other households with a stable source of income. Ms. Hoa said: At first, my family grew green vegetables using traditional methods, but consumption was very difficult because in rural areas, most households had garden land and were self-sufficient. Therefore, my family changed the direction of consumption, finding markets in areas such as Lao Cai , Tuyen Quang... Realizing that the market here was quite stable, my family rented more land and at the same time linked with a number of other households in the area to expand the area of growing safe vegetables. Up to now, on average, we supply the Lao Cai and Tuyen Quang markets with about 300-400kg of vegetables, tubers, and fruits of all kinds every day. The revenue of households reached an average of about 150 million VND/year, much higher than growing rice and corn before.
Actively seeking out foreign markets and linking production with other households helped Ms. Le Thi Hoa's family in Hoang Cuong commune become a well-off household.
The National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the 2021-2025 period has been implemented, with an important target of creating livelihoods for people, ensuring a sustainable and stable source of income. Implementing the program, from the beginning of the period, the locality has deployed and built many models of household economic development as well as collective economic development suitable to local conditions. Before the merger, the Party Committees and authorities of Hoang Cuong, Man Lan and Ninh Dan communes (belonging to the old Thanh Ba district), now Hoang Cuong commune, were all concerned about finding suitable livelihoods for people in the area. Many models have been deployed such as planting green hemp, fruit trees, bananas, bananas on alluvial land, safe vegetables... In particular, the model of growing safe vegetables has been effective, many households have escaped poverty thanks to vegetables, changed production practices, and focused on market demand...
Comrade Ha Anh Tuan - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee commented: The National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period of 2021-2025, in addition to supporting poor households to build economic models from the budget, the locality propagates and mobilizes experienced households with capital to support poor households and help each other escape poverty. Along with continuing to implement the program after phase 1 ends, the locality hopes that the Party and State will continue to implement phase 2, focusing on supporting funding to renovate, upgrade and build new traffic systems and canals within the fields. Convenient infrastructure helps people reduce production costs and increase economic efficiency, which is the most sustainable poverty reduction solution, aiming for the goal that by 2030, the whole commune will no longer have poor households as set out in the Resolution of the 1st Commune Party Congress, term 2025-2030.
Growing safe vegetables and applying advanced automatic irrigation techniques helps reduce production costs and increase economic efficiency in Hoang Cuong.
