Technical diversity
In fact, the demand for treatment using traditional medicine is increasing, especially for chronic diseases such as musculoskeletal system, stroke, hemorrhoids... The number of hospital visits has increased steadily over the years, from more than 14,600 in 2021 to nearly 24,000 in 2024.
Responding to that trend, in recent years, the facilities have been invested in spacious, modern equipment, creating a solid foundation for expanding the scale and implementing many new techniques, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine.
The highlight is the implementation of many new techniques, harmoniously combining traditional medicine with modern medicine. Special methods such as acupuncture, thread implantation, fire therapy, acupressure massage... are combined with modern techniques such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, intra-articular injection, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, gastrointestinal endoscopy, hemorrhoid surgery... This combination has significantly improved the effectiveness of treatment.
Dr. Nguyen Van Anh, Director of the Traditional Medicine Hospital of Da Nang City, said that the unit also pays special attention to human resource development. “In addition to organizing many continuous training courses and fostering new techniques for medical staff, the hospital also promotes postgraduate training,” said Dr. Anh.
Focus on service quality
Not only improving techniques, the unit also pays special attention to developing medicinal herbs - the core element of traditional medicine. In 2022, a model medicinal herb garden with more than 80 species of plants will be put into operation, both serving treatment and being a lively "practice room" for medical students and patients to learn.
Traditional medicine products produced locally are also increasingly diverse. Many types of pills, pills, powders, and decoctions are trusted by patients because of their safety and suitability to the Vietnamese body. “Being proactive in sourcing medicinal herbs and products not only ensures treatment but also contributes to preserving and promoting the value of traditional knowledge,” Dr. Anh commented.
Identifying traditional medicine as a national cultural heritage, the nature of Oriental medicine is preventive medicine, so right from the planning of the construction of the new facility, the hospital leaders included in the design many construction items bearing the mark of traditional medicine, such as: Oriental Medicine Hall, Temple of Zen Medicine, health care practice yard, Zen - Yoga practice room, Herbal Medicine Garden...

Based on the foundation achieved, the hospital continues to expand in new directions related to social needs. In 2023, the Medical Tourism Unit was established, attracting hundreds of international patients and tourists.
Here, visitors can experience unique traditional medicine methods such as acupuncture, acupressure massage, fire therapy, thread implantation, etc., while also enjoying a relaxing vacation. This model not only brings about health recovery but also contributes to promoting the image of Vietnamese traditional medicine to international friends, opening up a sustainable development direction for the health sector associated with tourism.
At the same time, the hospital maintains many spiritual therapy activities such as "Therapy Garden", "Cooking Together", "Music Exchange Program of Traditional Medicine Doctors' Love"... creating an optimistic atmosphere, helping patients gain more motivation during the treatment process.
With the results achieved, Da Nang City Traditional Medicine Hospital is gradually affirming its role in the local health system, becoming a trusted address for the people and a bright spot in preserving and promoting the value of traditional medicine. Recently, the unit was honored to receive the Government's Emulation Flag and the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit.
