Nga Son expands the area of crops that have been granted planting area codes.

In order to control quality, affirm the value of agricultural products in the market, and ensure product traceability, Nga Son district has recently encouraged localities and producers to expand the area of specialized cultivation zones and establish cultivation zone codes. Initially, these coded cultivation zones have proven effective, opening up new development directions for the local agricultural sector.

Nga Son expands the area of crops that have been granted planting area codes. 0.2 hectares of "Golden Queen" yellow melons in Nga Lien commune have been granted a domestic growing area code.

As a locality with many favorable conditions for agricultural production, right from the planning stage of building a model rice cultivation area, the People's Committee of Nga Yen commune assigned the Nga Yen Agricultural Cooperative to develop a model rice cultivation area. After a period of analysis, evaluation, and selection, Nga Yen commune selected 10.3 hectares for specialized hybrid rice cultivation to focus on development. Mr. Mai Dang Bac, Director of the Cooperative, said: Hoping to build a high-quality rice cultivation area, the Cooperative has disseminated information to help people understand the benefits of participating in building a model rice cultivation area; sent technical staff for training to guide people in production according to VietGAP standards; and ensured proper and complete rice care. At the same time, they guided households to meticulously record the stages of fertilization, spraying, and harvesting; using organic fertilizers and pesticides that are on the list of permitted substances, suitable for each stage of plant growth and development, and ensuring sufficient quarantine periods before bringing the product to market.

Although the standards for the inland production area are quite new compared to the traditional production methods of the local people, thanks to the strict application of production processes, close monitoring and support from the Nga Yen Agricultural Cooperative and the district's agricultural officials, the local production area not only achieved a superior yield, more than 10% higher than mass production, but also met the standards to be granted an inland production code according to the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development . In addition, the harvested rice product has been contracted for purchase by several businesses and rice processing units. Based on the outstanding advantages of the certified production area, Nga Yen commune is currently planning to establish domestic production codes for several local cash crops, such as safe vegetables and watermelons. This is not only one of the solutions to increase the economic value of agricultural products but also to improve efficiency and innovate the thinking of agricultural development for the local people.

Not only in Nga Yen commune, but also in several other communes such as Nga An, Nga Thach, Nga Lien, and Nga Hai, many specialized crop cultivation models have registered for domestic traceability certification. The establishment of traceability certification not only helps with traceability but also closely links production to specific processes to meet market demands. This contributes to changing the production mindset and actions of people and management officials in the district; bringing positive impacts and effectiveness in enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products, promoting production linkages, and forming sustainable value chains.

Mr. Mai The Luc, owner of a yellow melon production facility in Nga Hai commune, said: "Following the local government's policy and wanting to increase the value of the melons produced in our family's greenhouse, in 2023, my family registered to produce according to the prescribed standards, so 1,000m2 of production was granted domestic product identification. After being 'identified,' the product has traceability and production process, so it not only has competitiveness in the market but is also easily sold in large supermarkets in Hanoi , Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa City... This is a significant step forward in production, so my family is planning to expand the area and target group of production."

Nga Son district has a large agricultural production area, with approximately 14,000 hectares of crops annually cultivated, including crops with outstanding advantages such as sedge, rice, and various types of melons. However, as of June 2024, only 30.9 hectares of crops in the district had been granted domestic agricultural production codes. This includes 30.3 hectares of rice and 0.7 hectares of yellow melons. This indicates that the area granted codes is not commensurate with the district's potential and advantages.

The Resolution of the 23rd Congress of the Nga Son District Party Committee, term 2020-2025, identifies "developing agricultural production towards high technology, linked with building advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas" as one of the three key programs, aiming to create new breakthroughs. Therefore, establishing and expanding the Model for Sustainable Agricultural Production is a condition contributing to boosting product consumption and promoting sustainable and efficient agricultural production development. To further expand the area of crops granted Model for Sustainable Agricultural Production, and to raise awareness and understanding among officials, localities, and cooperatives about safe agricultural production, the Nga Son District People's Committee has coordinated training sessions on the process of establishing production areas for key crops according to VietGAP or equivalent standards, and disseminated mandatory regulations of import markets... At the same time, during the implementation of the Model for Sustainable Agricultural Production, the district regularly monitors the grassroots level, organizes training sessions on the transfer of science and technology, and guides the procedures. At the same time, officials will be assigned to inspect and monitor the growing areas to promptly correct any issues and provide guidance to ensure compliance with regulations; and to promote and encourage people to continue to strictly adhere to the regulations of the approved MSVT (Medium-Standardized Agricultural Product) plan.
