According to RT, on the night of May 23, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on military targets in Ukraine using the Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic missile system, Iskander ballistic missiles, Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, air-launched, sea-launched, and land-launched cruise missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The attack came after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Ministry of Defense to “submit a proposal” in response to the Ukrainian drone strike on a teacher training college dormitory in Luhansk, which killed 21 people and injured 42, mostly teenage girls.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the shelling targeted Ukrainian military command and control facilities, air bases, and defense industry enterprises. The ministry added that no attacks were planned or carried out against civilian infrastructure.
Early this morning (May 24), Ukrainian media and Telegram channels circulated several videos showing multiple glowing objects rapidly descending from the sky. They claimed that Russia had deployed Oreshnik missiles targeting an unidentified location in the town of Belaya Tserkov near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
According to Russian authorities, the dormitory of Starobelsk College, a facility of Luhansk Pedagogical University located in the town of Starobelsk, was subjected to multiple attacks by Ukrainian drones on May 22 while students were sleeping inside. Russian President Putin condemned the attack as a deliberate "act."
