Cao Pha commune is located in the valley at the foot of Khau Pha pass, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province. Residents are mainly Mong and Thai people. The pouring water season makes the terraced fields in Cao Pha appear impressive by the brown color of the land, blending with the blue sky and iridescent water surface under the brilliant yellow sun.
The fields in Cao Pha kept overlapping, layer after layer. In order to have terraced fields, the H'mong people here have to choose the land on the hillside, the mountainside has a fairly large area, moderate slope and convenient location to catch rain and spring water.

According to the People's Committee of Mu Cang Chai district, in 2021, Cao Pha commune currently has 1.110 households with 5.949 people, the Mong people account for nearly 75%, the Thai people 23,8%, the rest are other ethnic groups (2,1%). Thanks to the flourishing tourism, Cao Pha commune has gradually "changed skin", people's income has also gradually improved.
