In the early days of the new spring, banks simultaneously launched many customer appreciation programs.

Whether it's deposits or loans, customers are a blessing for banks in the early days of the new year.

Sending good luck and prosperity.

For many people, especially in the business world, the numbers 6 and 8 are considered auspicious. In Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation, 6 is pronounced "luc" and 8 is pronounced "bat." According to business interpretations, "luc" sounds similar to "luck" (loc), and "bat" sounds similar to "prosperity" (phat). Therefore, they believe 68 represents luck and prosperity, while 86 represents prosperity and luck. The number 68 is generally preferred over 86.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, VietinBank Hai Duong welcomed a customer who deposited a substantial sum of 68 billion VND in savings. This customer is a business operating in Hai Duong province. This information, published in the Hai Duong newspaper, attracted significant attention from the community, with some jokingly calling the customer a "lucky business."

“We have been doing business with VietinBank Hai Duong for a long time; it can be said that both sides have gone through many ups and downs together. Therefore, with the lucky savings deposit of 68 billion VND, we hope that both we and the bank will have a prosperous and successful year, full of good fortune and success throughout the year,” shared a representative of the “lucky business.”

According to reviews from various banks such as VietinBank Hai Duong, Agribank Hai Duong province, BIDV Thanh Dong, Bac A, Sacombank, etc., the total amount of savings deposits on the first day after the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025 reached over 1,200 billion VND. This figure is nearly three times higher than the opening day of the Lunar New Year in 2024, and many times higher than on a normal day.

Customers are advised and guided to choose savings packages with preferential interest rates at the beginning of the spring season.

During the first trading days of the Year of the Snake 2025, banks simultaneously launched many attractive gift-giving programs, offering gifts in kind and cash to customers opening new savings accounts or depositing money into their savings accounts. Not only do banks encourage the attraction of idle funds for savings, but they also serve as a profitable investment channel.

As a savings customer, Ms. Mac Thi Tai from Le Thanh Nghi ward (Hai Duong city) believes that people and businesses depositing savings at the beginning of the year not only hope for a lucky new year, but also demonstrate the development in their production and business.

“Recently, upon hearing Hai Duong announce its economic growth plan, and how it is steadily moving into a new era alongside the rest of the country, I hope that the people and businesses of the province will develop even further, achieving five or ten times the success of the previous year. The professional service attitude of the banks during transactions at the beginning of the new year is also a factor that helps us feel more prosperous,” Ms. Tai shared.

After the Lunar New Year, many parents choose to deposit their children's New Year's lucky money into fixed-term savings accounts, which helps their children save money while also earning interest. Most banks now accept a minimum deposit of 1 million VND, or even less.

Borrowing from the "God of Wealth"

According to many banks, a new trend during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake this year is the increased number of customers seeking loans. On the morning of February 3rd, a business in the province borrowed 39 billion VND in short-term loans from VietinBank Hai Duong.

"Many people in our business community consider the number 39 in feng shui to be the number of the God of Wealth. Taking out a bank loan at the beginning of the year not only helps us supplement our working capital for business but also signifies a wish for a lucky, prosperous, and wealthy new year," shared a representative of this company.

According to many banks, a notable trend in the early days of the Lunar New Year 2025 is that customers have borrowed more money.

Also on the morning of February 3rd, at the Tu Ky branch of BIDV Thanh Dong, Mr. Dang Van Nghia, residing in Le Thanh Nghi ward (Hai Duong city), the owner of an advertising business in the province, borrowed nearly 5 billion VND in short-term credit.

“The ancients believed that no matter how necessary, one should not borrow money at the beginning of the new year for fear of being in debt and unlucky all year. However, we borrow capital from the bank for business, to create value not only for ourselves and our partners, but also to contribute a small part to the overall development of the province. We think that a smooth flow of credit right from the beginning of the year is like having a smooth and successful production and business management throughout the year,” Mr. Nghia shared.

According to reports from many banks, hundreds of billions of dong in credit capital have been disbursed in the first working days of the new year. Agribank in Hai Duong province alone approved and disbursed nearly 400 loans of various types, totaling nearly 200 billion dong, in just two days (February 3-4). Commercial joint-stock banks without state capital have also significantly increased credit flows right from the beginning of the year.

To align with the government's target of over 8% GDP growth in 2025, the banking sector aims for a 16% credit growth rate, with the ability to adjust flexibly according to actual economic developments. The outstanding credit balance of the economy is expected to reach over 18.1 trillion VND by the end of 2025, meaning the banking sector will inject nearly 2.5 trillion VND into the economy this year.

Banks have implemented various measures to stimulate credit demand, such as reducing interest rates, launching numerous credit packages specifically for different customer groups, and boosting lending for social housing…

Deposit interest rates are projected to remain stable or increase slightly in 2025, creating room to maintain lending interest rates close to market levels.

Ms. Pham Thi Van Anh, Director of Bac A Bank Hai Duong branch, said: “Borrowing from banks right from the beginning of the year shows that the perspective of people and businesses has changed, focusing on actual needs. Deposit interest rates will be adjusted depending on each bank, but may remain stable or increase slightly, along with cost-cutting measures by banks to maintain lending interest rates close to market rates.”
