A new day in the steadfast lands

Under the leadership of the Party, the administration and management of the government, and the consensus of the people, the once desolate and sparsely populated revolutionary base areas have undergone a dramatic transformation, experiencing significant changes in all aspects. The lives of the people have continuously improved.

A livable countryside

During those historic days of April, we returned to the "red addresses" —places associated with the years of bombing and shelling. The land once ravaged by bombs and bullets has miraculously transformed, with vast rice and lemon orchards stretching as far as the eye can see, and sturdy, solid houses serving as evidence of development 50 years after national reunification. Thanh Phu commune, Ben Luc district, Long An province is one such place!

During the war against the US, Thanh Phu was a vital transportation artery connecting North and South on Highway 4, a hot spot on the battlefield of the province. At that time, the enemy used every means to attack and pacify the area in an attempt to cut off this strategic supply route.

With fervent patriotism and deep hatred for the enemy, the soldiers and people of Thanh Phu steadfastly held their ground, defended the roads, sheltered cadres, and fought to the end, contributing to the glorious history of the resistance war against the US, and achieving the overall victory of the entire nation.

In recognition of their immense contributions to the struggle for independence, freedom, and national reunification, in 1998, the Party and State bestowed upon the army and people of Thanh Phu the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. This is a well-deserved reward for a steadfast and loyal land .

Thanh Phu commune (Ben Luc district) was recognized as an advanced new rural commune in 2020 and is striving to achieve the model new rural commune standard.

Half a century after the country's reunification, Thanh Phu has donned a "new look," becoming a desirable place to live. The dirt roads of the past have now been paved with asphalt and concrete. Spacious and modern houses are springing up in increasing numbers.

In 2020, the commune was recognized as achieving advanced new rural commune standards. Since then, the lives of the people have continuously improved. To date, the commune no longer has any poor or near-poor households, and the average income has reached 74 million VND/year.

Chairman of Thanh Phu Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Minh Thang, said: “Besides focusing on economic development, the commune also prioritizes environmental protection and the development of cultural life. Schools and classrooms have been invested in and are well-equipped, with all four schools in the commune meeting national standards. The protection and care of people's health is always a priority. Currently, 88% of households use clean water, and 95% of people participate in health insurance.”

Caring for families entitled to preferential policies is considered an important task by Thanh Phu commune (Ben Luc district).

Not only agriculture, but also industry, trade, and services are developing strongly. The commune has 68 efficiently operating businesses, creating jobs for hundreds of workers from both within and outside the locality.

In addition, the local authorities always pay attention to caring for families entitled to preferential policies and people in difficult circumstances.

“Today’s changes are the culmination of the indomitable spirit of the past and the perseverance and unity of the entire political system and the people. Building on the glorious traditions of this heroic commune, the Party Committee, government, and people of Thanh Phu continue to unite and work together to fulfill the tasks set by the Party in the new era. That is, to build a homeland that is increasingly innovative, integrated, and developed,” Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang stated.

"Transforming and evolving" day by day.

Due to its unique geographical location, during the resistance war for national independence and freedom, under the leadership of the Party, My Le commune, Can Duoc district, was an important area for the revolutionary forces and even for the enemy. Therefore, after the war, this land was devastated and ruined.

Emerging from the flames of war, the Party Committee, government, and people of the commune upheld their heroic fighting traditions, working together with unity and creativity to transform the acidic, saline soil of My Le into a prosperous and comfortable homeland. Fifty years have passed since the homeland was liberated from foreign invaders – a relatively short period compared to the history of the Cho Dao region – yet the village and the lives of the people of My Le have been dramatically changing day by day.

Road infrastructure in My Le commune (Can Duoc district) has received comprehensive investment.

According to Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Le Commune: “With collective effort and unity, the Party Committee and people of My Le Commune have overcome challenges and fulfilled their tasks in each historical period. My Le is one of the leading units in the district's emulation movements, and the successful construction of a cultural commune and a new rural commune is a typical achievement of the Party Committee and people of My Le.”

Leveraging the local strengths of having specialty rice varieties like Nang Thom and Tai Nguyen Cho Dao, the commune is implementing a high-quality rice field model with a "four-party" linkage, guaranteeing product purchase for farmers.

In addition, efforts to form cooperative groups and improve farmland to promote mechanization in production have initially yielded practical results. Food production reached 7,734 tons/year. The area of high-tech vegetable cultivation reached 791 tons/year, bringing high income to the people.

92% of households have access to clean water. Over 98% of the population participates in health insurance. The electricity, road, school, and health station systems have been built to a high standard.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan (Cau Lang hamlet, My Le commune) shared: “Since the New Rural Development program was implemented, the face of the commune has improved significantly. In particular, roads have been invested in comprehensively. People are diligently working, so their living standards are constantly improving.”

Worthy of being called a land of heroes.

During the resistance war, Thuan My commune, Chau Thanh district, was chosen as a base and headquarters for the leadership of the Saigon-Gia Dinh City Party Committee's Sub-region 3, the Chau Thanh District Party Committee, etc. This was a place where the enemy concentrated their attacks with extreme ferocity, causing heavy losses in terms of both lives and property. Upholding the tradition of patriotism, the soldiers and people of Thuan My were ready to sacrifice themselves to protect the safety of the revolutionary base.

With peace restored, Thuan My strived to heal the wounds of war and rebuild its homeland amidst numerous difficulties and shortages. At that time, rural infrastructure was weak, essential elements for life such as clean water and electricity were unavailable; schools, health centers, and housing were makeshift;...

The historical site of the Sub-regional Party Committee and Command Headquarters of Sub-region 3 in Thuan My commune (Chau Thanh district) is a "red address" for educating the younger generation about revolutionary traditions.

With strong determination and great effort, the Party Committee, government, and people of Thuan My commune have gradually overcome difficulties and enthusiastically engaged in labor and production. Fifty years after the complete liberation of Southern Vietnam, the commune's appearance has become increasingly vibrant.

In agricultural production, most people have switched to growing two rice crops per year. In addition, people are boldly applying science and technology in shrimp farming, yielding high economic returns. The commune's economy is developing steadily, and the people's living standards are improving.

The commune was recognized as a model new rural area in 2024. Currently, the average per capita income is 79.84 million VND/year. The multidimensional poverty rate is 0.42%. The percentage of people participating in health insurance is 98.2%.

Tran Hoang Sang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Thuan My commune, informed: “The Party Committee and people of Thuan My have been twice honored as Heroes during the resistance war. From a Party branch in 1975 with more than 10 members, after 50 years of liberation, it has developed into a Party Committee with 14 branches and 280 members. In the four years (2021-2024), the commune's Party Committee has continuously been recognized as a Party Committee that has excellently fulfilled its tasks. This is a solid foundation for Thuan My to continuously develop on the path to prosperity and strength.”

Residents of Thuan My commune (Chau Thanh district) now have access to healthcare services right in their local area.

From lands once engulfed in the flames of war, Thanh Phu, My Le, and Thuan My have transformed, embracing a new image – one of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development. This transformation not only demonstrates the Party's correct leadership in socio-economic development, while preserving and promoting the glorious historical and revolutionary traditions of the homeland, but also serves as a driving force for these localities to continue their journey of building a more prosperous and beautiful homeland, contributing to the nation's entry into a new era – an era of national progress.
