People's Artist Duc Trung simply shared that it was "the joy and happiness of his final years" for someone who had dedicated his entire life to art. Behind that humility lies a journey of more than half a century of dedication by an artist who was once a soldier in the Truong Son Mountains, devoted to theater, film, and television with all his passion and responsibility.

People's Artist Duc Trung - From a battlefield soldier to an artist of the Youth Theatre
People's Artist Lê Đức Trung was born in 1939. Before becoming a professional actor, he served in the military for over 20 years. During his time in the army, he spent five years fighting in the fierce Trường Sơn battlefield. Those years in the military instilled in him a disciplined demeanor, composure, and a strong sense of responsibility – qualities that have stayed with him throughout his artistic career.
After the country was reunified, he transitioned to an artistic career and became one of the first generation of artists at the Youth Theatre. From here, a new chapter opened for the former soldier.
Possessing a handsome appearance, elegant demeanor, and a benevolent face, Le Duc Trung quickly earned the trust of directors and was given many leading roles. Throughout his years working at the Youth Theatre, his name was associated with a series of famous theatrical works by playwright Luu Quang Vu such as "The Ninth Oath ," " The Last Lie ," "The Last Summer ," " Living Forever at 17, " etc.
This period also helped him solidify his position in the Northern theater scene. Without fanfare or scandals, Le Duc Trung captivated audiences with his authentic, dignified, and emotionally rich acting style.
Three times he impersonated President Ho Chi Minh.
One of the most remarkable milestones in the career of People's Artist Le Duc Trung is that he has portrayed President Ho Chi Minh three times in three different art forms.
He played the role of President Ho Chi Minh in the stage play " History and Witnesses ," the musical drama " Melodies of May," and the television series " President Ho Chi Minh Lives On with the Coal Region ." This is considered one of the biggest challenges for any actor because the image of the leader always demands thorough research and accuracy in demeanor and emotion.
Not only on stage, he also participated in many beloved television and film productions such as *Crime and Love *, * The 17-Year-Old Convict* , *12A and 4H* , * The Reverse Light Streak *, * The Trainee Reporter *...
With his tall stature, distinctive gray hair, and dignified demeanor, he was often cast in roles as professors, doctors, leaders, military officers, or respected fathers and grandfathers. This image gradually became the actor's signature.

"Your face can't fool anyone."
Throughout his more than 40-year career, People's Artist Le Duc Trung has been almost exclusively associated with positive roles. He has been given the opportunity to play villainous characters on numerous occasions, but the results have not always met expectations.
He once humorously recounted participating in a film playing an antique dealer, or portraying a flamboyant nobleman in " The Bourgeois Gentleman ." However, even when playing villainous roles, audiences still felt his characters... weren't evil enough.
During a meal with the film crew, everyone jokingly said to him, "From now on, Uncle, please don't play villains anymore; your face can't fool anyone."
That seemingly lighthearted remark perfectly reflects the image he cultivated in the public eye over decades. His gentle face, sincere eyes, and upright demeanor made him the top choice for portraying kind and benevolent characters.
He himself admitted that if he felt he wasn't suited for a particular role, he was willing to give it up to a colleague. According to him, the job isn't about trying to do everything, but rather about doing well what you can.

People's Artist Duc Trung - "The nation's grandfather" of Vietnamese cinema.
In recent years, despite his advanced age, People's Artist Le Duc Trung has continued to appear on the small screen. One of his most notable roles was the grandfather in the hit television series "Sunflower Against the Sun," which aired in 2020.
Despite being over 80 years old, he still moves audiences with his natural, heartfelt, and profound acting style. His image, with his white hair, warm voice, and calm demeanor, has earned him the affectionate nickname "National Grandfather" from many viewers.
He not only captivated older audiences but also won the hearts of younger generations – those who knew him through his roles in modern television dramas. This demonstrates the enduring vitality of an artist who always maintains a sense of closeness and sincerity in each of his roles.

"I truly live a very simple life. I've lived in a way that no one can criticize, I've worked to the best of my ability, and there have been times when I've been tired. In the end, I'm in this position, loved and respected by everyone, so of course this is a great joy," he confided.
