A beautiful gesture at the beginning of the new year.

On January 15, 2026, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hong (residing in Tran Bien ward) completed her 15th blood donation. Ms. Hong is one of nearly 6,000 individuals in Dong Nai province who have participated in voluntary blood donation since the beginning of the year, initiated by the Provincial Red Cross Society through the Spring Blood Donation Festival, in the spirit of "A drop of blood in the spring, multiplying happiness".

Each unit of blood received at the beginning of the year has contributed to replenishing the blood reserve for the extraction of finished blood products and blood-derived products to serve the public's healthcare needs.

Start the year with good deeds.

January and February each year are the months when Dong Nai organizes the Spring Blood Donation Festival. This year, more than 30 voluntary blood donation drives were held.

According to Ha Trung Kien, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial Red Cross Society, each time the event is held, it always receives a positive response from the people. This creates a beautiful image of humanitarian blood donation work in Dong Nai in the early days of the year, such as the voluntary blood donation drive in Phuoc Binh ward where nearly 400 people participated. In Bu Dang commune, 423 officials, union members, association members, and citizens participated in blood donation with the spirit of "Donate blood at the beginning of spring - Multiply happiness"... The numbers collected through each blood donation drive contribute to promptly supplementing the valuable blood supply for emergency and treatment work at medical facilities.

On January 4th, in Dinh Quan commune, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong (49 years old) made his 58th voluntary blood donation. For 15 years, Mr. Phong has consistently donated blood in January each year, believing his actions benefit the community. He also considers donating blood a stroke of luck, as it signifies that his health meets the required standards.

As for Mr. Kieu Duy Phuong (35 years old, residing in Tam Phuoc ward), he has BRh- blood type, and this group in Dong Nai has 80 individuals. Responding to the call for blood donation at the beginning of the year by the Provincial Red Cross Society, he recently donated blood voluntarily in January 2026. He hopes that his rare blood type, along with that of others with the same rare blood type, will contribute to the necessary blood reserve so that if someone with this rare blood type unfortunately needs blood for treatment, they can receive a transfusion immediately to ensure their health.

Currently, Dong Nai province is one of the few provinces and cities nationwide that maintains a blood donation rate of 350ml/person/unit, compared to only 250ml/person/unit being applied in many other localities.

Thanks to the meaningful actions of voluntary blood donors at the beginning of the year, Dong Nai province has consistently been a leader in voluntary blood donation for many years. In 2025, Dong Nai ranked second in the Southern region and 19th nationwide in the number of voluntary blood donations received.

Encourage people to donate blood voluntarily.

In 2026, Dong Nai province was assigned by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation to receive over 60,000 units of blood, a 10% increase compared to 2025. Based on this number and the actual conditions, the Dong Nai Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation set a target of receiving over 71,000 units of blood, more than 10% higher than the target set by the Central Government.

According to Mr. Ha Trung Kien, the number of voluntary blood donations received this year in the province is much higher than in 2025. To achieve this target, from the beginning of the year, the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the Provincial Red Cross Society have been implementing many related activities. In particular, the Provincial Red Cross Society has developed a schedule for voluntary blood donation and carried out communication work to inform people about the time and location so they can make appropriate choices.

Specifically, in 2026, Dong Nai province will hold an average of one voluntary blood donation drive every two days. The province will also maintain regular voluntary blood donation drives, such as the Spring Blood Donation Festival in January and February, and the Summer Blood Donation Campaign in May and June.

Furthermore, the province focuses on building relationships with blood donors as well as organizations that have previously collaborated in blood donation drives. This has been effectively implemented, with the number of repeat blood donors (those who continue donating after their first donation) in Dong Nai reaching 85%, which is 30% higher than the national average.

Furthermore, according to Mr. Ha Trung Kien, based on the working and studying schedules, age, etc., of each blood donation group, the Red Cross at all levels distributes the locations and times of blood donation drives throughout the year. Specifically, for students and teachers, blood donation drives will be held simultaneously during the Spring Blood Donation Festival in January and February every year. For workers, depending on the cooperation of business owners and trade unions, the Provincial Red Cross flexibly arranges blood donation schedules with the goal of providing the most convenient and safest option for blood donors and avoiding disruption to business operations. This aims to attract more businesses in Dong Nai to participate in voluntary blood donation.

Besides encouraging people to actively participate in blood donation, the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the Provincial Red Cross Society focus on emulation and reward programs for repeat blood donors, exemplary blood-donating families, and agencies, units, and businesses that actively organize voluntary blood donation drives. This serves as motivation for individuals and groups to continue participating in the Voluntary Blood Donation Movement.

In parallel, given the province's large number of religious followers, the Provincial Red Cross Society continues to coordinate with religious organizations to hold voluntary blood donation drives right at religious establishments, making it more convenient for religious leaders, officials, and followers to donate blood to save lives.

According to Mr. Ha Trung Kien, Chairman of the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Provincial Red Cross Society hopes that people will continue to uphold the noble act of donating blood to save lives by participating in voluntary blood donation activities organized in 2026.
