Van Y entered the Road to UFC bantamweight semifinals with confidence, actively throwing high kicks to put pressure on Lawrence Lui. The Bac Ninh native even made his opponent wary with a dangerous high kick in the first round, but also nearly received a sharp counterattack from the New Zealander.

With this defeat, Nghiem Van Y stopped in the semi-finals, while Lawrence Lui won a ticket to the final to meet Sulang Rangbo (China) or Sim Kai Xiong (Singapore).
