A second foreign language gives you an advantage in the workplace.
In this year's admissions season, foreign language majors continue to receive great attention from students due to their wide range of career opportunities and adaptability to various fields.
While many people previously thought that learning a foreign language was primarily for becoming a teacher or translator, the training trend has now changed significantly, with universities focusing on developing students' practical skills, professional abilities, and international integration capabilities.
Sharing his thoughts on the Japanese Language major, Mr. Nguyen Do Tung, M.Sc. - Executive Director of Van Hien University, said that students studying this major not only learn Japanese but are also required to learn a second foreign language as part of their training program.
According to Mr. Tung, during their studies, students can choose to learn another language, most commonly English. This training orientation aims to meet the increasingly high recruitment demands of businesses in the context of integration.
"Currently, many Japanese companies in Vietnam prioritize hiring candidates who are proficient in both Japanese and English. Therefore, learning a second foreign language as part of the program will greatly enhance students' career advantages," Mr. Tung shared.

According to a representative from Van Hien University, the Japanese Language major now focuses not only on language training but also helps students gain a deeper understanding of Japan's history, culture, people, and work environment.
With the strong investment trend of Japanese businesses in Vietnam over the past few years, the demand for personnel fluent in Japanese has also been increasing.
The training program is designed with an application-oriented approach, focusing on language knowledge and professional skills.
Students receive in-depth training in Japanese culture, economics , and society; they also learn additional skills in translation and interpretation, tourism, commerce, and Japanese language teaching.
In addition to specialized knowledge, students are also trained in skills such as adapting to their living environment, teamwork, communication, and behavior in a multicultural setting.
The school also focuses on developing all four skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—at an advanced level so that students can use Japanese proficiently in their studies and work.
"Having proficiency in two foreign languages simultaneously will give students many advantages when accessing international materials, working in multinational corporations, or participating in a global work environment."
"Students who already have a good foundation in English tend to learn a second language faster, have easier access to international knowledge, and have more career opportunities after graduation," he said.

Expanding opportunities
Not only Japanese Language majors, but many foreign language majors are now being taught with an applied focus to meet the new demands of the labor market.
Discussing the English Language major, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Head of the Communications and Admissions Department at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, noted that the English Language major is no longer solely associated with teaching or translation as it once was, but has become a field of study with broad applications in the international environment and the digital economy.
Accordingly, the university's Bachelor of English Language program is designed with an applied approach, helping students develop their foreign language skills while also acquiring professional skills in various fields.
In addition to specialized knowledge, students also gain access to international communication skills, translation and interpretation, media, commerce, technology, and skills for working in a business environment.
As a result, after graduation, students can not only become teachers, lecturers, translators, or interpreters, but also have many other career options such as international communications specialists, human resources staff at foreign companies, marketing, digital marketing, PR, international customer service, executive assistants, import-export specialists, or international tour guides.

Ms. Ngoc stated that many businesses now highly value candidates' foreign language skills, communication abilities, and cross-cultural work skills, rather than just their academic background.
"This is why many English Language students transition into marketing, communications, e-commerce, international business, or digital content creation after graduation."
"In particular, when combining English with technology skills, AI, digital media, or business skills, career opportunities will expand significantly," Ms. Ngoc said.
Sharing the same viewpoint as Mr. Tung, Ms. Ngoc added that one advantage of language students is their ability to adapt to their careers quite well, as they have easy access to international materials, work with foreign clients, learn new skills faster, and have opportunities to work in a global environment.
"It can be said that, in today's era of integration, English is not only an academic discipline but also a professional tool that helps learners develop in many different fields later on," Ms. Ngoc emphasized.
