Not only is she a dedicated manager, but she is also a highly innovative and selfless female union member who wholeheartedly supports her colleagues. She was recently honored by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor as a "Dynamic, Creative, and Responsible Female Union Member" for the first time in 2025.

From young workers to dedicated managers

More than 20 years ago, Nguyen Thi Dung, born in 1979 in the former Uy No commune, now Dong Anh commune ( Hanoi ), stepped into the Canon Vietnam factory with much apprehension. In her early days working on the assembly line, she had to learn each operation, adapting to the strict procedures and the fast-paced production schedule. But with her ambition and discipline, she quickly rose through the ranks, from assembly worker to Deputy Head of the Assembly Department, overseeing over 1,000 workers.

"The biggest lesson I've learned at work is the importance of listening and empathizing. Every worker is valuable; they just need to be trusted and given opportunities, and they will contribute greatly and create something good," Ms. Dung shared with a gentle smile.

Thanks to her effective management style, her department has consistently won the "Outstanding Labor Team" award for many years, always leading in productivity, product quality, and internal solidarity.

The daily interaction with production workers has led Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung to constantly reflect and seek ways to innovate. For her, innovation is not something far-fetched, but begins with small actions in the workplace, making employees' work less strenuous, increasing productivity, and reducing errors.

In the program "1 Million Initiatives, Overcoming Difficulties, Determined to Win Against the Covid-19 Pandemic," she made her mark with an automated component supply solution that optimally combined human and machine operations. This improvement helped reduce 300 indirect labor jobs, saving more than 30 billion VND per year, while also enhancing the flexibility of the production line in the context of a volatile global component market.

Next, Ms. Dung further impressed her colleagues by "unlocking" the bottleneck on the new production line, considered the most challenging to date. By restructuring the product flow and intelligently allocating manpower, she helped the company save over $1 million.

Undeterred, she continued to digitally transform the training area, applying a smart management system instead of manual record-keeping, which helped shorten training time and improve efficiency right from the start of employment for new workers.

Ms. Dung shared: “Initiatives don't always succeed. Sometimes they go wrong, sometimes they fail after a trial. But the valuable thing is that we learn from those unsuccessful attempts.” Based on her own experience, Ms. Dung encourages the teams in her department to participate in the “Technical Improvement Initiative” movement. In 2024-2025 alone, her team had many initiatives that were put into practice.

"What I'm most proud of is seeing young people become more confident, daring to think and dare to propose ideas. When the spirit of creativity spreads, that's the most sustainable success," Ms. Dung said.

According to Nguyen Anh Ngoc, Chairman of the Trade Union of Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd., Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung is not only excellent in her professional work but also holds many roles: Member of the Executive Committee of the Women's Affairs Committee and treasurer of the grassroots trade union. From advising on adjustments to meal allowances and proposing policies to support pregnant female workers to organizing team-building activities, she and her colleagues meticulously and thoughtfully implement all of these tasks.

With her collaboration, many humanitarian activities are regularly maintained, such as "Zero-Cost Booths," "Giving Love During Tet," and "Canon Family Day"... During the Covid-19 pandemic, she and her colleagues directly mobilized and collected thousands of masks and essential supplies for struggling workers. In addition, she initiated many practical movements such as "Canon Women - Excellent at Work, Capable at Home," and "Women Workers' Innovation Club."

In addition, Ms. Dung is also an internal trainer at Canon Vietnam, directly teaching courses on "Production Improvement and Innovation" and soft skills for team leaders and managers.

As one of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam (from the printing machine assembly line department), a former trainee of Ms. Dung, shared that Ms. Dung dedicates time to training at least two courses each year, patiently passing on valuable experiences drawn from real-world production. Her training sessions are not dry like a typical technical class. With a gentle voice and friendly gaze, she inspires trainees through real-life factory situations, from her own failures and how she overcame them, to her successes in the profession, allowing trainees to gradually understand and absorb the lessons. This is what makes Ms. Tam and many other trainees enthusiastic about each of Ms. Dung's classes and helps them better define their career development goals.

Throughout more than two decades of dedication to her work, Ms. Dung's quiet efforts and unwavering commitment have been recognized with numerous awards. Each title is a milestone, a mark on her journey of labor, creativity, and contribution. These include a Certificate of Merit from the Hanoi City Federation of Labor for outstanding achievements in the "Excellent Worker, Creative Worker" emulation movement; and the title of "Outstanding Worker of the Capital City".

Notably, in 2025, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung was honored among the top 10 outstanding female union members nationwide, receiving the "Dynamic, Creative, and Responsible Female Union Member" award – an award presented every five years by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, recognizing the contributions of outstanding female union officials across the country.
