(Dan Tri) - A poor woman who lost 1.5 million VND on the occasion of Lunar New Year received more than 160 million VND from benefactors, creating a real-life fairy tale.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (54 years old), residing in Tan Mach village, Vinh Thai commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province, is the person who lost 1.5 million VND while going to the market on the occasion of Tet At Ty in her hometown.
Ms. Hoa’s family is extremely poor. She lives with her aunt in an old, run-down charity house. Ms. Hoa’s aunt was born with a birth defect and cannot walk.
Mrs. Hoa and her aunt's daily life depends on the squash and pumpkin plants and chickens raised in the garden. Occasionally, they go to work for extra money.

On January 27, while going to the Tet market, Ms. Hoa accidentally dropped 1.5 million VND wrapped in a piece of paper. When she discovered the money was missing, Ms. Hoa burst into tears because this was the amount of money she had saved for nearly 2 months.
"When I discovered the money was missing, I cycled around looking for it all afternoon but couldn't find it. I had saved this money from my job to pay off debts and buy some things for Tet, so I was very sad and worried when I lost it," Ms. Hoa shared.
At around 6pm the same day, an acquaintance told Ms. Hoa that the commune police had informed her that someone had found 1.5 million VND. Ms. Hoa quickly called the local police to report the loss of the money, but because her house was far away, she made an appointment to go to the police station the next morning to verify.
That evening, Mrs. Hoa unexpectedly welcomed special guests, officers from Vinh Thai Commune Police . The police officers brought 1.5 million VND to verify and hand over the money to the poor woman's overwhelming joy.
"The police said a woman named Thuy, who lives in the same commune, found the money and returned it to me. At that time, I was very happy and grateful," said Ms. Hoa.
Captain Hoang Ngoc Minh, Chief of Vinh Thai Commune Police, said that although he had heard about the situation before, he still felt heartbroken when he visited Mrs. Hoa's house. At that time, the people in the neighborhood had decorated with flags, lanterns, and flashing lights to celebrate Tet, but Mrs. Hoa's house was the complete opposite.

Faced with the difficult situation of Mrs. Hoa’s family, Vinh Thai Commune Police shared the news on their social media page and received great attention from the online community. Many benefactors contacted Vinh Thai Commune Police, offering to transfer money to help Mrs. Hoa’s family.
According to Captain Minh, after asking permission from the Vinh Linh District Police and local authorities, he stood up to receive the donations from benefactors. There were about 570 benefactors at home and abroad who sent donations to support Ms. Hoa's family, totaling 160 million VND.
"I am very surprised by the strong influence of the community and the great help of benefactors. We appreciate and thank all the affection of people from all over the country and abroad who have cared and shared with Ms. Hoa," said Captain Minh.
Being supported with more than 160 million VND is like a "fairy tale" for Ms. Hoa (Photo: Nhat Anh).
For Ms. Hoa, having more than 160 million is like a fairy tale, something she never even dreamed of.
"Receiving the 1.5 million VND I lost was already a happiness for me. Now, receiving a large sum of money from benefactors, I am extremely happy. In my whole life, I never dared to dream of that amount of money. Thank you everyone for loving my family," said Ms. Hoa.
Based on the family's wishes, Vinh Thai Commune Police will coordinate with local authorities and organizations to support the repair of the old house, build a new bedroom, kitchen, and private bathroom for Ms. Hoa, and save the remaining money.
