From passionate student projects to million-view MVs by young artists, Xam is stepping out of old prejudices, taking on a fresh, vibrant and attractive appearance. A heritage that was once at risk of being lost is now being strongly revived by the younger generation, affirming that traditional culture can absolutely shine in the midst of modern life.

Young people "put on a new coat" for heritage

Facing the bustling and chaotic flow of commercial music, a group of Journalism - Communication students (Printed Journalism class K42, Academy of Journalism and Communication) courageously chose to go "upstream", determined to restore and revive old art forms that are facing the risk of disappearing, including Hat Xam. This is both a conservation activity and a strong affirmation of the young generation's responsibility towards their roots. From that enthusiasm, the non-profit project "Nghe Tan Ky" was formed and took flight.

The event “Nghe Tan Ky” will officially open to the public on November 23 at the ancient space of Bich Cau Dao Quan (No. 14 Cat Linh Street, Hanoi ). The program is organized on the occasion of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, and is also an opportunity for the young generation to express their deep gratitude to the traditional values that their ancestors have worked hard to preserve. This is also an affirmation of the role and responsibility of young people in continuing and spreading national culture in the modern context.

“Nghe Tan Ky” promises to bring a multi-sensory experience, where the audience can immerse themselves in quintessential folk music forms. Audiences will directly enjoy Xam, Ca Tru, Cheo and Chau Van singing through the performances of experienced artists. The event space also displays unique cultural items such as Ly - Tran dynasty armor or Vietnamese Hoa Sac fans. This is also an opportunity for the audience to interact, listen to valuable stories and experiences from artists and cultural - historical experts.

Not stopping at the main event, the group also organized a creative “Xam Du Ca” session at Hoan Kiem Lake walking street to increase the ability to spread. By introducing traditional arts in English and Chinese, the group connected with many international tourists. The activity did not stop at performing, but also expanded into a diverse cultural experience space such as writing calligraphy, making figurines, and wearing traditional costumes.

Through this series of activities, the group hopes that people will have a deeper understanding of the characteristics of each art form, while at the same time nurturing love and pride for Vietnam's rich national culture. This is a clear demonstration of the pioneering role and sense of responsibility of young people in the journey to preserve the soul of traditional heritage.

When Xam reigns "market"

The appeal of Xam does not stop at community projects but has created an "earthquake" on the entertainment stage, proving its ability to conquer the tastes of young audiences. The MV Muc ha vo nhan by Soobin Hoang Son in collaboration with Binz and People's Artist Huynh Tu is the clearest proof.

As soon as it was launched, the product quickly climbed straight to the top of trending, surprising everyone with its meticulous investment in every detail and the perfect blend of ancient Vietnamese soul with contemporary spirit.

This success has made many older people - who were skeptical about the younger generation - reconsider. People's Artist Huynh Tu, Soobin's father, emotionally expressed: "I was surprised and amazed by the younger generation. Suddenly I found myself short-sighted. But I was very wrong." That sincere sharing is not only a compliment, but also a recognition of the efforts of the youth to preserve and spread traditional culture.

Muc Ha Vo Nhan is constructed as an elaborate moving art painting, a subtle combination of traditional and modern music. The classic Northern countryside setting is recreated with real images, makeup and props, while the message of “say no to AI” emphasizes the respect for labor and craftsmanship. The satirical story of two young men pretending to be blind fortune tellers brings a humane message of “Everyone, be good”, both humorous and profound.

The MV's resounding success lies in the way it honors traditional culture through every unique detail: Xam singing mats, sedge mats, pieces of pottery, sidewalk tea shops, village communal houses, ponds, Dong Ho paintings... The music is renewed with a treasure trove of native sounds and a "cameo" cast of 17 artists and artisans playing traditional instruments such as drums, rice drums, two-stringed fiddles, flutes, monochords, moon lutes, three-stringed zithers, ho lutes, clappers, jellyfish, wooden fish... creating a rustic yet sophisticated overall sound.

Muc Ha Vo Nhan is the pinnacle meeting between the past and the present, between folk charm and the creative spirit of Gen Z. In the bustling market music scene, the fact that a MV using folk materials takes the spotlight is a golden signal: Vietnamese culture is being loved, renewed and revived by the proud heartbeat of young people.

Soobin Hoang Son is not alone, as many other young artists are also passionate about traditional music and reaping success. Ha Myo is one of the prominent faces when combining Xam with electronics and rap, creating a new contemporary folk style. Products such as Xam Ha Noi or Xam 4 Mua Hoa bring traditional music closer to young people, as evidenced by millions of views on TikTok.

In the long term, the efforts of artists and projects such as Soobin Hoang Son’s “Xam den truong” or the student group “Nghe Tan Ky” share the same goal of preserving and renewing Vietnamese cultural values. The attention from audiences as well as experts is the strongest affirmation of the enduring vitality and eternal beauty of the national artistic heritage.
