The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has not received any information about Vietnamese casualties in the January 1st earthquake in Japan, and many citizens have been evacuated to safe locations.
A series of earthquakes struck Ishikawa Prefecture and several neighboring areas in central Japan on the afternoon of January 1st, triggering a tsunami that killed at least 48 people and caused the collapse of many buildings.
Vietnamese authorities have coordinated with local governments, trade unions, and associations to inform and guide the Vietnamese community in the affected areas. There have been no reports of Vietnamese casualties as a result of the earthquake, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
Many Vietnamese citizens have been assisted by local authorities in evacuating to safe temporary shelters.

Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan continue to maintain contact with local authorities and Vietnamese associations in earthquake-affected areas to monitor the situation and are ready to implement citizen protection plans if necessary.
Currently, there are over 500,000 Vietnamese people living, working, and studying in Japan. Tran Thi Trang, administrator of the Vietnamese community in the Hokuru region, which includes the three prefectures of Ishikawa, Toyama, and Fukui, the areas most severely affected by the earthquake, said that about 200 Vietnamese people live in the area.
