The Vietnam U23 match did not take place at the main King Abdullah Sports City stadium. |
Before the tournament, many fans believed that the matches would be held at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, the most modern stadium in Saudi Arabia with a capacity of approximately 65,000 seats.
However, the match between Vietnam U23 and Jordan U23 took place on a smaller, auxiliary field adjacent to the main stadium. Through television broadcasts, viewers could easily notice the difference in the stands and playing space.
Instead of the magnificent King Abdullah Sports City stadium, coach Kim Sang-sik's team will play on a secondary pitch within the same sports complex in Jeddah. Nevertheless, the stadiums for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship have been meticulously prepared, meeting all the standards of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The fact that the Vietnam U23 team played on a secondary pitch did not affect the quality of play. Many fans even praised the pitch's condition, saying it suited the short-passing style of play favored by the Vietnam U23 team.
Meanwhile, the King Abdullah Sports City stadium is reserved for major events, including this week's Spanish Super Cup series featuring Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Athletic Bilbao.
