Expanding the model of raising native black chickens.

In recent years, the model of raising native black chickens has been chosen by many localities in the province as a suitable, effective, and sustainable livelihood development direction. With its ability to adapt well to harsh natural conditions, low investment costs, and ease of care, the native black chicken breed not only meets the growing market demand for local specialty agricultural products but also brings high economic value to farmers.

In Xuan Giang commune, the model of raising native black chickens is gradually proving its effectiveness, becoming a bright spot in the implementation of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction giai đoạn 2021 – 2025. Xuan Giang commune focuses on diversifying livelihoods, building and replicating poverty reduction models associated with the development of new livelihood models that bring high economic efficiency. This is considered an important direction to create livelihoods, increase income, and improve the quality of life for people, especially poor households, near-poor households, newly escaped poverty households, and vulnerable groups, contributing to the achievement of sustainable socio-economic development goals.

The family of Ms. Thào Thị Sinh in Lùng Vi village, despite only having implemented the model of raising native black chickens for about 3 months, has already seen clear prospects and economic benefits. According to Ms. Sinh, the black chickens grow well, the market is stable, and the current selling price is over 150,000 VND/kg, bringing a promising income to the family. It is known that her family received support of 200 chicks from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025. The flexible and appropriate funding has contributed to encouraging people to boldly propose and implement livelihood models linked to local customs, traditions, and production conditions.

Also from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025, Mr. Dang Van Hung's family in Khan Nho village received 15 million VND to invest in purchasing 150 black chickens for poultry farming. Initially, Mr. Hung faced many difficulties in caring for the chickens and preventing and controlling diseases. However, thanks to the timely guidance and support of professional staff, he gradually mastered the techniques, confidently maintaining and expanding the model, hoping to bring a stable income to his family in the future.

Based on the initial success of these models, many households in the commune have proactively visited and learned from the experience of raising black chickens, contributing to the gradual expansion of the model and creating sustainable livelihoods for local people.

Mr. Phung Minh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Giang commune, said: The commune has identified and selected highland villages to develop a model for raising native black chickens. Currently, the entire commune has 19 villages, of which 10 are highland villages suitable for raising this native black chicken breed. In the past, the commune has supported three pilot models, yielding quite high economic value. In the future, the commune will continue to expand the native black chicken farming model to many villages in the area, contributing to economic development and increasing income for the people.

By implementing a comprehensive set of livelihood diversification solutions, including the model of raising native black chickens, which has been identified as a suitable approach given the natural conditions and production practices of the local people, Xuan Giang commune hopes to create a significant transformation in poverty reduction in the coming time. Not only does it bring immediate economic benefits, but the native black chicken model also contributes to the formation of long-term, stable livelihoods, helping people proactively rise out of poverty, increase their income, and gradually improve their quality of life, making a positive contribution to the sustainable socio-economic development goals of the locality.
