Na Pinh Hamlet is one of the areas with the largest vegetable growing area in Ky Lua Ward. Previously, households in the area mainly cultivated vegetables using traditional methods. However, since mid-2025, many households here have participated in the VietGAP-standard vegetable production model with a much more systematic production process.
Mr. Dinh Van Ket from Na Pinh hamlet said: "My family has 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) of Chinese cabbage, regular cabbage, and kohlrabi grown according to VietGAP standards since October 2025. Since then, I have participated in 3 training courses from specialized agencies on production processes and received support in the form of 4 quintals of organic fertilizer and microbial-based pesticides for production. Initially, production according to VietGAP standards faced certain difficulties due to the need to adhere to composting, fertilizing, and harvesting procedures. However, my family has now clearly seen the benefits of the model. In the first harvest, our vegetable yield increased by about 20% compared to before, and the vegetables also looked better."
It is known that the model of growing safe vegetables according to VietGAP standards has been implemented in Ky Lua ward since 2017 with an initial area of only 12 hectares. To expand the area of VietGAP-certified vegetables, over the years, specialized agencies in the ward have implemented many solutions such as: disseminating information to households about the benefits and effectiveness of developing the VietGAP-certified vegetable farming model; training people on production processes; supporting people in completing the necessary documents and procedures for implementing the model...
For example, from 2025 to the present, the ward has promoted and encouraged households in the area to participate in the model with an area of 5 hectares. At the same time, the ward has coordinated with specialized units to conduct 3 training courses for over 100 households. Furthermore, exemplary households in the area have received support of nearly 10 tons of fertilizer and production materials. Many households have also had the opportunity to directly visit production models in some neighboring provinces and cities... As a result, the area of vegetables grown according to VietGAP standards in the ward has reached nearly 30 hectares (an average of over 3 hectares/year from 2020-2025) with 38 households participating in the model, making it one of the areas with the largest area of VietGAP-certified vegetables in the entire province (the whole province has over 70 hectares of VietGAP-certified vegetables). This is concentrated in the Na Pinh, Na Han, and Bac Dong II areas.
According to many households participating in the VietGAP-standard vegetable farming model, compared to traditional methods, VietGAP-standard vegetable cultivation is more difficult to implement because it requires strict adherence to production processes. Specifically, composting must be done for at least 15 days before application; pesticide spraying must be done correctly according to each stage of vegetable development; and vegetables must wait at least 15 days after spraying before being ready for harvest. Despite this, assessments by the Department of Economy , Infrastructure and Urban Development of Ky Lua Ward, based on surveys, inspections of the model, and product acceptance, show that households are implementing the model very seriously and in an increasingly systematic manner.
With the VietGAP vegetable production process, many households report a 10-20% increase in the yield of vegetables such as Chinese cabbage and kohlrabi compared to before. In addition, test results of vegetable samples from these households after harvest consistently meet the quality standards for safe vegetables. This has led many households to want to further expand their production area in the future.
Mr. Hoang Van Hai, a vegetable farmer in Na Pinh hamlet, said: "Currently, my family has 2 sao (approximately 2000 square meters) of kohlrabi grown according to VietGAP standards. In the last harvest, our vegetable yield increased by about 20% compared to traditional farming methods, and this year's prices (at the end of 2025) also reached a high of 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg. Therefore, my family is planning to expand the area of vegetables grown according to VietGAP standards to double the current area."
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nguyen, Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Planning Department of Ky Lua Ward, the annual vegetable cultivation area in the ward currently exceeds 200 hectares. With such great potential, the department is continuing to research and advise the Ward People's Committee to coordinate with specialized agencies to implement programs to expand the area of vegetable cultivation according to VietGAP standards. This will focus on specialty and strong-performing vegetables such as kohlrabi, Chinese cabbage, cabbage, and sweet cabbage. In addition, in the coming time, the ward will continue to strengthen training, propaganda, and mobilization efforts to encourage people to participate in the model. This will contribute to improving both the quality and quantity of vegetables, as well as changing the production mindset of farmers towards modernity.
