Japan, an advanced nation with a strong economy and high demand for labor, has long attracted Vietnamese workers. However, after the fluctuations in the economic market, is this country still a land of opportunity for young Vietnamese people?
Is the Japanese market still attractive?
Japan not only has a developed economy, but is also a leader in science, technology, and services. With an aging and declining population, labor shortages are becoming increasingly serious, particularly in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, agriculture , and healthcare. To achieve its economic growth targets, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) estimates that Japan will need 4.19 million foreign workers by 2030 and 6.88 million by 2040, even with rapid automation.
To address the severe labor shortage caused by an aging population, the Japanese government has adopted several new policies prioritizing the protection of the rights of foreigners working in Japan, creating opportunities for them to live and work for longer periods. However, the new system requires workers to have a certain level of Japanese language proficiency.
Many young people living and working in Japan face significant challenges such as language barriers, differences in skills, work standards, and corporate culture. These issues lead to considerable time spent adapting to the new environment. As a result, Vietnamese workers may find it difficult to achieve their expected income levels, especially given the current depreciation of the Japanese yen. Nevertheless, foreign companies still highly value Vietnamese workers for their diligence, proactive spirit, and learning ability, demonstrating their great potential for skill development.

With new policies from the Japanese government, workers with strong language skills, high professional qualifications, and good adaptability are becoming potential candidates for this market. Japan not only provides a safe working environment but also offers a professional work style, stable income, and opportunities to access advanced technology. Specifically, the number of Vietnamese people living and working in Japan has increased significantly, from approximately 200,000 in 2016 to 570,000 currently. This demonstrates that Japan is a reliable destination, chosen by many Vietnamese workers for career development, education, and living.
Even as many young people choose to return to Vietnam to develop their careers, they still bring with them many valuable advantages such as a solid language foundation, high-level skills, and the ability to adapt to the demanding corporate culture in Japan – factors that Japanese businesses investing heavily in Vietnam particularly value.
Although Japan is attractive with many opportunities, it is also one of the most demanding markets with high standards. Young people not only face language barriers, skills challenges, and cultural integration issues, but also worry about financial matters, as initial costs are often very high. This causes many families, especially in rural and remote areas, to carefully consider their options before making a decision.
"Go to Japan first - Pay later" - A confident foundation for international integration for young Vietnamese people.
Despite Vietnam's demographic dividend of 52.5 million people in the working age group, youth unemployment remains a worrying issue. According to the General Statistics Office, in the second quarter of 2024, approximately 1.3 million young people (aged 15-24) nationwide were unemployed and not participating in education or training. One of the reasons for this situation is a lack of direction and access to opportunities for personal and career development, especially in attractive international environments like Japan.
To address these challenges, Cen Academy has developed a comprehensive training program that not only teaches specialized Japanese but also provides career guidance and cultivates the necessary skills, demeanor, and discipline for an international environment. With modern facilities and teaching methods that meet international standards, Cen Academy helps students optimize their study time in Vietnam while also preparing them with a solid foundation to confidently enter the Japanese job market.

With the desire to support young people in overcoming financial barriers when accessing international learning and working environments, Cen Academy has partnered with VPBank to launch the "Go to Japan First - Pay Later" program. The program provides a credit support package with 0% interest for 12 months and no collateral required, reducing the initial financial burden on students' families. Students only need to pay a small amount for tuition fees in Vietnam, while the rest can be paid in interest-free installments via credit card. This initiative opens up opportunities for many young people to access valuable international learning and working experiences.
