Successful tenure of Engineer Team No. 2 and Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 in the United Nations peacekeeping mission

( Bqp.vn ) – Joy, excitement and pride in returning to the Fatherland after a successful term of service that left many good impressions. That is the common feeling easily seen among the officers and staff of Engineering Team No. 2 and Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 (BVDC2.5) after a year of performing the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Engineer Team No. 2 successfully completed the UN peacekeeping mission and returned home.

At the welcoming ceremony of the Engineering Team No. 2 (at Noi Bai Airport, Hanoi ) and Field Hospital No. 2.5 (at Tan Son Nhat Airport, Ho Chi Minh City) held on September 28, the leaders of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department commended and recognized the outstanding results achieved by the two units; at the same time, they emphasized that the dedication and contributions of the officers and employees of the two units have spread the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" and further spread the image of the Vietnamese "blue beret" soldiers, creating a connection between the local authorities and people with the United Nations Peacekeeping forces in general, and of Vietnam in particular, thereby creating favorable conditions for the next echelons to perform their tasks well in the areas of the Missions.


2nd Engineer Team clears traffic in Abyei.

In August 2023, 184 officers and staff of the No. 2 Engineering Team departed to carry out peacekeeping missions at the United Nations Interim Security Mission in Abyei (UNISFA Mission). During the implementation of the mission in the area, officers and staff of the unit have continuously studied, improved their professional capacity, overcome difficulties and hardships, and excellently completed the assigned tasks. Notably, the No. 2 Engineering Team maintained and repaired the roads connecting Sudan and South Sudan through the Abyei area; opened new patrol routes with a total length of 337 km; participated in rescuing 86 UN vehicles and hundreds of Abyei people's vehicles that were stuck in the mud; construction, maintenance, and reinforcement of the helipad, ensuring the safe take-off and landing of more than 1,000 flights, and participating in other special missions as requested by the Mission to support humanitarian activities in difficult areas in Abyei. In addition, the 2nd Engineer Team also performed well in the task of constructing smart barracks in the fastest time, which was recognized by the United Nations and awarded a letter of commendation.

In addition to its professional duties, the 2nd Engineer Team also actively and proactively organizes many civil and humanitarian activities for the Abyei community, such as: supporting the construction and repair of roads, upgrading transportation, facilities and means of serving community activities; activities related to health,education and environment.

Engineer Team No. 2 celebrated the 78th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the UNISFA Mission.

Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung, Captain of the 2nd Engineer Team, said that performing tasks in a multilateral, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural international environment, officers and employees of the 2nd Engineer Team always clearly identify their responsibility in building the image of the nation and people, enhancing the position and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena. During the past term, the unit not only excellently completed its professional, technical, and mass mobilization tasks, but also through activities celebrating major holidays of the Army and the country, introduced to colleagues, international friends, and local people the cultural beauty and fine traditions of the country and people of Vietnam. The friendliness, closeness, and openness of each soldier of the 2nd Engineer Team in performing the UN peacekeeping mission is like a "door" welcoming international friends to Vietnam.

During the farewell ceremony for the 2nd Engineer Team, Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Deputy Military Commander of the UNISFA Mission, emphasized that the 2nd Engineer Team of Vietnam had overcome difficulties in weather conditions, language and cultural differences; quickly affirmed its capacity and responsibility in the tasks assigned by the leaders and commanders of the Mission in the most effective way. “We really trust you and so far, you have completed your tasks excellently. Before you leave for your country, I wish all officers and staff of the unit good health, peace, and good luck to your families. I hope that the next team will continue to promote the results you have achieved, continue to accompany the UNISFA Mission in the peacekeeping mission in Abyei” – Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani emotionally said.

Hospital 2.5 organized timely emergency treatment for patients with myocardial infarction.

Together with the 2nd Engineering Team, Field Hospital 2.5 with 63 officers and staff officially deployed in Ben-tiu, South Sudan in July 2023. In more than 1 year of performing the mission, Field Hospital 2.5 has admitted, examined and treated 2,374 cases, of which 2,295 were outpatients and 79 were inpatients; organized air transport to higher levels for 15 cases, and successfully performed surgery on 27 cases. Notably, the hospital has successfully treated and treated many serious internal medical cases such as anaphylactic shock, malignant malaria, myocardial infarction, and complex accident injuries for soldiers of various countries. All cases are safe, patients are satisfied, always have good impressions and receive many compliments about the sense of responsibility, dedicated attitude, professional competence and professionalism of the medical staff of BVDC2.5.

BVDC2.5 organizes professional training with international colleagues.

In addition to treatment, BVDC2.5 successfully organized a scientific conference with the participation of all medical centers in Ben-tiu, South Sudan (both civilian and military). Actively cooperated and provided professional support to civilian hospitals such as: Ben-tiu Town Hospital, level 1 field hospitals in the base. The hospital proactively developed disease prevention and control plans for the hospital as well as advised the Mission on disease prevention and control measures such as: COVID-19, malaria, monkeypox... The hospital is always ready with plans for screening, triage, treatment and care for patients suspected of having infectious diseases; at the same time, fully provided medicines, chemicals, supplies and equipment to serve medical professional tasks. During its term, BVDC2.5 produced and provided 800 liters of compressed oxygen to level 1 field hospitals; Support medicines, functional foods and medical supplies such as anti-epidemic masks, hand sanitizers, hand washing liquid for local hospitals and military medical units in the stationed area.

BVDC2.5 organizes charity program in South Sudan.

In addition, Field Hospital 2.5 has hosted two training courses on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to American standards (AHA) for medical staff in Ben-tiu Sub-Division and one course on drowning first aid and first aid resuscitation for individual officers working in the base. Coordinated well with the Mission's agencies in military-civilian coordination, contributing to building a good relationship between the UN Peacekeeping Mission, the people and the local government.

The welcoming ceremony of BVDC2.5 at Tan Son Nhat airport took place on the evening of September 28.

According to Major Le Minh Tan, Deputy Director of Field Hospital 2.5, with the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and great support from Vietnamese agencies and units and the United Nations, Vietnamese "blue beret" doctors and nurses have overcome many difficulties and challenges, successfully completing their assigned tasks. Field Hospital 2.5 is not only a place that provides high-quality medical services but also a symbol of humanity, peace and international cooperation.

With practical, effective and humane actions, in more than a year of performing the UN peacekeeping mission, Engineering Team No. 2 and Field Hospital No. 2.5 have demonstrated Vietnam's spirit and responsibility towards the international community; have been highly appreciated by the United Nations, trusted and admired by the local government and people, thereby contributing to further enhancing the tradition, culture, spirit of mutual love and affection of the Vietnamese people, the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", whether at home or abroad.
