Due to the influence of the Northeast monsoon, from the night of May 7th to the morning of May 8th, many communes and wards in Phu Tho province experienced continuous moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, causing widespread damage to rice fields and crops, landslides affecting roads, riverbanks, and roofs, impacting the lives of local people.

Strong winds damaged the roofs of houses in Chi Dam commune.

According to a preliminary report from the People's Committee of Chi Dam commune, heavy rain and strong winds caused the collapse of the parking garage for teachers and staff at Hung Quan Kindergarten (Area B); 150 meters of fence collapsed (25 meters at Hung Quan Kindergarten, 30 meters at the Tan Lap area cultural center, 25 meters at the Cao Soc area, and 70 meters at households in Van Tien 2 area); roofs of 30 households were blown off, 450 sheets of corrugated iron roofing were broken, and 140 square meters of corrugated iron roofing were damaged.

Heavy rain and strong winds also knocked down 7 power poles (2 in Thuong Khe area, 2 in Minh Giang Son area, 2 in Tan Lap area, and 1 in Tan Thanh area); flooded and damaged 129.5 hectares of rice and 0.6 hectares of forestry trees, and more than 23 hectares of corn... The total estimated damage is over 1.8 billion VND.

In Tu Vu commune, prolonged thunderstorms continued to cause riverbank erosion in Zone 10 (formerly Dong Trung); and landslides along the edge of the concrete road in Zone 4 (formerly Dong Trung) with a length of 20 meters. The heavy and prolonged rain also flooded over 300 hectares of rice fields in the former Hoang Xa and Dong Song areas (formerly Dong Trung), with 23 hectares of rice fields flattened. The total estimated damage is over 1 billion VND.

Following the principle of "better to harvest early than late," people in Dong Luong commune are urgently harvesting the rice crops that have been flattened by the wind.

The People's Committees of the communes have established working groups to inspect and mitigate damage; directed the readiness of forces, materials, and equipment for rescue operations in case of emergencies. They have mobilized forces to clean up, erected warning signs at landslide sites, and provided information and guidance to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow. They have also guided and directed residential areas to mobilize local forces to quickly address the consequences of the natural disaster and stabilize the lives and morale of the people in the area.

Continue to closely monitor the developments of natural disasters and weather to promptly warn people, prevent and implement remedial plans. Educate people to raise their awareness of proactive disaster prevention and control, minimizing damage, especially for households living in riverside areas at risk of flooding and landslides... At the same time, continue to assign personnel to be on duty 24/7.

According to information from reporters of Phu Tho Newspaper and Radio and Television, in many communes such as Van Ban, Tien Luong, Tay Coc, Thanh Thuy, Xuan Vien, Tam Nong, Dao Xa, Hoang Cuong... damage to crops and trees also occurred due to heavy rain and strong winds on the night of May 7th.
